My frididaire front load washer is making a loud knocking sound as it goes through the cycle. Also the metal "basket" in which the clothing is places seems to be "off its track" and loose. i can move it...

It sounds like the shocks for the drum are broken. The shocks absorb the wobbling of the drum due to unbalanced loads, etc. Remove the lower front panel (with machine unplugged) and look towards the back on each side and see if you see broken or hanging shocks. The panel has 2 screws I think and should come right off.
Also, if you can open the door and lifting up on the drum inside the machine and moving it around and hear a clunking sound, the drum bearings may be bad. Give that a try and see what you find.

I have a hoover saver1300 as from today it doesn't spin. It seems to pump ok but spinning is a nono. Please help, Im desprate. Cheers Stacey

Hi Stacey, Seems like your carbon brushes inside the motor may be worn out or sticking. Is the drum turning ok on wash? To check the brushes you will need to remove the motor which nis situated at the bottom of the machine.I dont know if you will risk this yourself, but if so ensure machine is unplugged. Remove back panel, then remove belt, and bolts holding motor into place. There is then a plug on motor which needs to be removed and also the green and yellow earth wire. The carbon brushes are at the side of the motor, in a plastic casing. they will have just 1 wire to each, and will be held in place with 2 screws in each. There are 2 brushes 1 each side of the motor. they should be at least half inch long, and slide in and out of plastic casing freely. If these need replacing then any domestic spares shop should stock them at around £12.- £15.00.Good luck and just be careful as the motor is awkward if you have never seen this

Dryer wont start. Seems like the motor is jammed. Drum rotates by hand, belt is ok, rollers ok. electrical smell when I tried to start. Automatic shut off/breaker kicked the switch, disabling it...

if you can move the drum by hand you have a bad motor, when was the last time you cleaned the dryer?when i clean them i blow off the motor, all kinds of junk blows off the motor even though it looks clean,it over heats the motor, also overloading will kill it,try popping the top on each side in the front,if the filter is on top remove the two phillips screws on the top panel in front of the filter, once you pop the top you'll see two 5/16 inch screws one on each side around four inches from the top, remove them, take off the door switch wires and then under the door section remove the springs and the other two screws one on each side and remove the front panel, whatch out for the door, you just removed the tention springs so it will pop open and unplug the dryer before you do this, remove the belt and take out the drum,i'm not sure what model you have,if you can't figure out how to remove the motor send the model number and i can help you to get the motor out,it's not that hard in kenmore dryers

Makes a very loud sound when in the final spin cycle. Model MAH5500BWW

The sound of the tub spinning is a smooth and not ruff sound. and with speed it sounds like a 747 taking off ( when your inside not outside ) when the brgs go bad it will sound like a train on the tracks when your waithing to cross. ( very loud as it speeds up and very ruff. if you remove the 4 screws in the back can ck just below the center shaft. there may be brown water stains on the base frame . / water has got in the main brg . and the brg's are failing . hope this helped. mm. ( could be the drain pump / ck for coins ect. drain pump runs just before and during spin/ but not soloud like brg's.. **** .

Made a loud noise and drum stopped moving

the tub seal lets go water will weep into the tub bearing. This will rust the basket shaft and normally wreck the tub bearing. Once the bearings starts to get worn enough it usually gets very noisy. The tub bearing is pressed onto the outer back half of the tub shell assembly. Normally need to replace the inner basket/shaft assembly and the outer shell with the tub bearing.
Sometimes the inner basket support will crack, this can give an clicking or banging noise as well.

Pictures of this job...
A sure indication was the brown junk/gookus leaking out if the rear bearing area and the belt has spewed it around in the drum that the rear bearing and seal was bad...
Picture1 - Picture2
The whole outer shell and basket come out to do this repair....what bad bearing and rusted shaft looked like...
Picture1 - Picture2 - Picture3
I had to remove the back panel. Undo the pump hose & water level hose, remove the 2 shocks, remove the motor, undo the front boot from the outer panel and remove the 2 springs to lift the whole assembly out from the back to work on it.

Drum does not move

dryer...there is no way to lubricate anything...all bearings are sealed. Get in there and look around. Turn off the gas and remove the line of you can't get access... and disconnect the power. Remove the back. Chances are you'll find that the motor, drum or belt is somehow jammed. Make sure any fan is turning freely with the belt off. It is possible that the timer is bad. This would keep the motor from receiving power. To test...remove the motor belt and turn the unit on.
