Hmmm. Could be a broken or defective xbox. If it's not even looking for updates......... have you been able to download updates before? If I can know this, I can answer a lot easier.

Is your xbox connected to a network? Are the network settings correct? ie: the same as other computers on the network? Are you using a wireless converter? Is this an xbox 360 or an older xbox?

My xbox wont update for me to have xbox live. i have tested the connection many times, i have unplug and replugs all wires and still can not update

It could be just because so many people where trying to get it at the same time... But if you go to the microsoft support site on Xbox.com search for 'Download update on PC' or something along the lines of that there is a tutorial to do that.

It wont let me download the update

The new update for the launch of Kinect is causing problems. I fixed mine by going into System Settings, Network settings, then running a test on xbox live. Initiating the test logs your profile out then runs a network test. The test completed with no problems and then asked me if I wanted to update again. Without logging back into my profile I clicked OK and the update ran without a hitch. I think the solution lies in the fact that my profile was logged out and from what I have seen, the only way to connect to xbox live without a profile being logged in is with a network test. Once you connect to xbox live it senses that you don't have the update and asks you again, this time without a profile logged in and you are able to do it.

Wont let xbox live update i checked connection and it was fine

If your Xbox 360 console is connected to the Internet through a router or gateway (as opposed to through a direct modem connection), try connecting the console directly to the modem. Here's how:

  1. Plug one end of a network cable into the back of your Xbox 360 console and the other end into your modem.
  2. On the console, sign in to Xbox LIVE and start the game.
  3. Choose to download the game update.

If you can download game updates when the Xbox 360 console is connected directly to the modem, there might be a problem with your router or gateway configuration.

Cheers!!

My xbox wont update xbox live

Most cases here you on a wireless connection?

If youe on a wireless connection change to wired then update, if your already on a wired connection then you need to connect your machine direct to your ISP modem and not any routers or switches or things that would inhibit or bloack the transmission. What happends is Xbox live is loaded and sometimes the download drops out because of the amount of users on the service at any given time. Once it falls below any certain KB/per secound the transmission is stopped by your isp this is called a abandoned download.

If your on a router disconnect and go directly into the isp modem.

Thanks and please do leave postive feedback and ratings for your free answer today.

Still my xbox live update test fails...

Netopia's Modem my also act as a Router protecting your system from internet traffic! You need to check your model to insure what you have. If it is a Router you will have to Contact Netopia in regards to configuring Pin Hole on the Router to open the gaming ports on the Router.
