Lamp Hour Meter

My TV was purchased in 2003. I have replaced the lamp once since that time. When that lamp went out, there was no warning or notice. The TV simply did not turn on. The service tech told me where to purchase a lamp, and how to replace it.
Now, I'm getting a warning message that the lamp should be replaced, and the lamp hour meter should be reset. Thinking that since the first bulb did not run its complete life cycle, the lamp meter wasn't reset when the tech was here. And, not having a warning message (as it does now), I didn't know to ask how to reset the meter. The warning message "The lamp needs to be replaced, and the lamp hour meter needs to be reset".
How do you reset the lamp hour meter

I am experiencing the same issue where the bulb meter is expired but
the bulb has been replaced recently. Unfortunately, the remote doesn't
work and I tried doing the meter reset with my Universal remote with no
    luck. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

This proceedure should work for your model to reset the lamp meter.
Lamp Time Reset Procedure:
Be sure to reset the Lamp time to "0" after replacing the new
Lamp.
1. Plug in the AC Cord, and turn on the power by pressing the
POWER button.
2. Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button on the unit and
the SPLIT key on the remote together for over 5 seconds
in power on condition.
When the reset is finished, the display will indicate that the lamp hrs have been reset to 0 and the LAMP LED goes out.

If you have a PT50LC13, the procedure is to press and hold both the VOL- button on the set and the PIP button (the one at the bottom left) on the remote for 5 - 10 seconds. You will see a message "LAMP TIME WAS RESET TO 0".

#1 - make sure the remote is the one that shipped with the television
#2 - make sure you're aiming the remote at the IR sensor on the television while you perform this procedure
#3 - make sure the message is not on the screen at the time - it will not work if you see the lamp timer needs to be reset message
#4 - make sure the remote, being a universal, is in TV mode.

Thanks for the solution! Be sure and press the vol- on the TV, not the remote, along with PIP on the remote. Had this TV for about 6 1/2 years and never knew how to rest it until now!

I have a Panasonic LCD TV model PT-50LC13. The procedure I used to reset the Lamp to 0 is: Simultaneously press the vol- on the TV (not on the remote), along with PIP on the remote. After about 5-10 seconds a message will appear indicating the lamp timer was reset to 0. Easy. Good luck.

Everything above is exactly correct but not with a universal remote. One more thing for the males who don't like to read directions without pictures.... "Put the TV COMPLETELY back together..."! That means... put the lamp guard back on and lock it! Then you can follow all the above directions to reset lamp time. You men...just can't follow directions... What would you do without us females.. hee-hee...

The above is correct. I own a Panasonic PT-52LCX15 and the proceedure worked but I had to do it three times before it took. So, hang in there.

make this test and fix it. God bless you

You simply need a screwdriver (Phillips-head) and then follow this guide:
  • Reset component settings. Usually, the problems you encounter with a projection TV may be resolved through the resetting to its factory settings. If you experience inaccuracies in the color, reset the television's PerfectTint/PerfectColor capabilities. Simply press the Menu tab and then highlight "Perfect Color" using your right key arrow. After this, press "Enter" and then "Reset" in order to reset to factory settings. If you have audio / video problems (VCR or DVD player), simply press "Menu" and highlight the "Reset" option.
  • Reset television controls. In case you cannot fix your TV via its component settings, there are other ways of resetting. Just select "Menu", key in "1, 2, 3", and then press "Enter." In doing this, the TV's manufacturer's specifications will all be restored. If your TV's power system does not function, you should perform a complete system reset. You can do this by clicking on Reset System button located at the TV's control panel. Your television will be turned off and then a green light (LED) will quickly flash for approximately one minute. Once the light has stopped flashing, your TV should immediately turn on.
  • Use your remote control. The first step is to inspect the batteries of the remote control and see if they are functioning. If its power button starts to blink several times once you turned it on, then the batteries need to be replaced. See to it that your remote control is used within about 20 feet from the television. Make sure also that nothing blocks the space between the remote control and the receiver.
  • Check the fan. Once the television is turned off, it is just normal for its fan to become louder. A projection TV actually depends on its lamp, which requires cooling so that it will not prematurely burn out. If the room where your TV is placed is very hot, the fan would also continue to run.
Replace projection lamp. To properly do this, make sure that the lamp's bulb has cooled down and the TV is unplugged. Carefully remove the cover of the lamp's compartment using your screwdriver (Phillips-head). Unscrew the sealed part of the lamp that can be found at the television's rear part. Take away the old lamp cartridge and then insert a new one. Seal the lamp with screws, replace its cover and then screw tightly.

Hi Brent, Mitsubishi's have a problem with the power supply and the Light Engine which incorporates the Digital Module of which it has to be purchased as a complete assembly. I sincerely believe you should not put that kind of money into a dlp set. The cost of the light engine is in the area of $1100.00. Your last idea is the best one.

Before it went out, was the sound like a fan or high pitched in nature?

Lamp can be removed (is is customer replaceable) to see if shattered inside.

I suspect a bad color wheel, which is not hard to replace. See attached photo of color wheel.

Examine lamp and if not shattered do not buy one to try.
