Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

I have just updated by philips 32PFL7623D LCD tv. After the update was complete I turned it off using the button on the TV rather than on the remote control. When I turned it back on it would not start up. The light on the front flashes slowly (10 seconds on, 5 seconds off) but nothing else happens.

Hi,
If tv firmware was being updated through usb port then unplug tv from wall socket, replug usb flash drive in tv, replug tv back in wall socket and turn it On and let it get update file again, complete update process as per given instructions with update file.
If still problem does not solve then I'm afraid, main board of tv will be replaced or check with nearest Philips service center.
Hope this info will help you.
Thanks.

The blinking light signifies to a repair technician with capacitors or circuits are having an issue they can diagnose the problem via the amount of blinks in between pauses however it will require a technician and some specific tools and schematics to fix and it may be cheaper if its no longer under warranty to purchase a new one

Hope this helped

The TV was fine until I tried to update the software, could that have caused the problem?

Is there any way to reset/restore the TV to factory setting to see if that solves it?

  • andrew23scot May 13, 2010

    Sort of fixed it

    Switched off at mains
    Plugged USB back in
    Switched back on at mains.

The TV is now on but the light is still flashing and I can't change channel. I.e. I'm stuck on the channel I was watching before I started. Any ideas?

It sounds like a short in the menu button, most likely the one on the TV itself (though it could be the remote). To rule out the remote, just remove the batteries from it and see if it still does it - it probably will.

Fortunately, this should not be too hard to fix. You'll need to remove the faceplate around the menu button, and then look at the wires. Somewhere between the button and the board those wires connect to, you should find a spot where two bare wires or connectors are close enough that they almost touch. It may be that the wires are stripped somewhere, or that one of the connectors is bent over towards the other. If it's stripped wire, wrap it in electrical tape. If it's a bent connector, bend it back (and possibly wrap it in electrical tape as well).

Either something's causing the wires to move just enough that they occasionally touch, shorting, and thus the TV registers it as the menu button being hit, or they are close enough that the power occasionally arcs from one to the other, with the same result. Separating and insulating them should do the trick.

My tv won't fully come on. I'll press the on button and it will show the Philips logo then immediately turn off. after 30+ button of pressing the on button it will finally come on and stay on until...

If you go to http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?ctn=32PFL3505D/F7&scy=us&slg=en you can download the firmware update for your TV. If you read the Firmware Update Read-Me file it will contain all the instruction you NEED to follow to update your TV. One of the first firmware fixes should fix this issue. It is listed in their update history as ZPBF2QA_087_0_3202 - Set does not turn On intermittently. This leads me to believe you simply need a firmware update. If you do not wish to do a firmware update you can usually pay a repair shop a minimal fee to do it for you.

Hope that helps!

When turing on tv it stays frozen on philips logo. called and was told that I needed software update is this true. tv can only be tunred off by unplugging it remote or side power button will not work.

Yes, this is true. It is in need of a firmware update. Here's is where you can get the firmware update and the instructions on how to flash. Probably have to direct connect you pc via usb on the back, however I am not 100% sure. Hope this helps and don't forget to rate this high. http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?ctn=42PFL3704D/F7&scy=us&slg=en

Magnavox 42 LCD 42mf438b/f7 turns on/off by itself

Mine was doing the same thing. Update the firmware and it fixes the problem. Updating the firmware is done by downloading the file to a thumb-drive from the phillips product support page then plugging in the drive into the side of your television and turning it on. See your manual for slightly better instructions.

Bose Remote not linking to Samsung HDTV

I got my bose remote to work when I did a system update on the remote. Turn the TV on. Select the TV video input that connects the system. On the control console, press and hold setup until the system information screen displays. line 5 will display the currently installed console software version. on the remote press any button. Line 10 will display the currently installed remote software version. Do a bose system update. On the control console press setup. on the remote control, press the down arrow until update is highlighted and press ok. make sure yes is highlighed and press ok. on the control console plug a clean usb drive into the usb port.when prompted, remove the usb drive and connect it to a computer. open the drive and double click on the download_launcher file, which should bring you to an update page on bose.com. Once complete, put it back in the control console. When the update is complete remove the usb.

Philips flat screen tv reboots

Try sticking in a blank but empty USB memory stick into the USB port.... have the real remote (philips not a universal) ready... Go into the TV Menu..Select Software Update, then select Update Assistant.... then right click over to start now... It will write an HTML file to the memory card.. wait for it to say done,(been awhile since iv done it), plug it into your PC/Mac and open the file on the USB stick.... if you need an update it will check for it... download the update and the instructions to your desktop (might be compressed, if so open it and copy the files according to the readme.... stop the stick (eject) in Windows or the mac equivalent... pull it out of the pc.. turn OFF the tv and insert...

This can very likely stop the reboot loop.. Iv seen mentions of some tv firmware revisions having this problem.
