Question about Heating & Cooling

Making a noise I've never heard before

My 5 year old Friedrich SS12J10AR-B seems to be working normally, however it's making a noise I've never heard before. It's a subtle 'clanking' sound, similar to the sound a diesel engine in a car makes.
Does this give any clue whatsoever to what, if anything, might be wrong?

Thanks,

A_C

It sounds like the fan blade is hitting something. Turn the unit off and make a visual inspection inside the unit. With the unit unplugged, turn the fan blade manually with your hand to determine the source of the obstruction and correct. Something may have rusted and come loose inside......or some wires may have come loose. It will require a visual inspection.

I hope you find this to be very helpful to you moving forward.

Clanking noise coming from Allison Transmission on a 2001 Chrevrolet Silverado 8.1 Liter engine

this does sound like theres a loose line tapping the engine/frame,during warm up the engine idles faster which could make it vibrate faster causing the the clanking or tapping noise,if this has started after trans fluid change, then check the lines running from the trani to radiator sometimes the service person might bang into something causing plastic clips that hold the lines to break, try getting under it and have someone start the truck and listen to see where it's coming from also hold the lines & see if the noise stops, the service guy could have unbolted something & never put the bolt back causing the clank ex.line may have a clip holding it thats bolted to the trani pan ?good luck

Clanking noise & won't sew

Are you sure you put the correct type of needle in? Normally, if you have any problem, cleaning and oiling will fix it. It sounds like you either didn't tighten the needle screw or you put the wrong type of needle in.

I have an 8 year old Friedrich model SS10J10AR unit. The unit keeps shutting off when in cooling mode. When I leave it in FAN only it runs. I tried to reset the circuit board by hitting "Money...

Honestly, repairing and 8 year old AC unit (assuming parts are still available) can cost almost as much as buying a new one. If this is the first time you've had a real problem with it ... You've gotten your monies worth over the past 8 years. But, the decision is yours to make.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Water is draining into my bedroom when a/c is on ihave a freidrich model#ss12j10ar-1? can it be fixed or should i just buy a new a/c?

Before you buy another one, check two things:

1. make sure the unit is tilted back in the window and not forward. The unit has to be tilted back away from the window about a half bubble on a level in order to drain out the back.

2. if the unit is tilted in the window properly and still draining out the front, you will have to take the case off the unit and wash it out good with a hose and sprayer. If the unit is not rusted out on the bottom, the drain is stopped up that drains the water from the front coil into the base of the unit. The water should be draining from the front to the back, and excess drains outside on the ground. Hopefully, it just needs a good cleaning. Hope this can save you from buying a new unit. Stay cool. Maytag dryer making clanking noise

I had this problem and the cause was a loose screw holding on one of the "paddles" inside the drum. I removed the door, front panel, lifted the top, manually rotated the drum until I saw the screw head which had worked loose and was slapping the side of the dryer. A quick tighten of the screw and the noise was gone.
