Be calm, all wires only plug where they belong to and most times they're color coded.

1. Two cables connect to the monitor, one is a power cable and the other is a video cable, most of the times its VGA cable which end in a connector with 15 pins and a blue plastic cover, search for a blue rounded corner trapezoid in the computer tower, once you find it carefully instert the cable from the monitor and tight the screws that are at each side. image

2. If your keyboard and mouse are USB then connect them to any avaiable USB port (these are squared and the computer has many), It may be that your keyboard and mouse end in round conectors this are called ps/2 and look like this, purple is for keyboard and green for mouse.

3. This far you have connected most common input output, if you also have speakers connect its jack in the green audio socket.

Finally connect your computer to the power, this should be all.

I don't know how to put my tower together, or check parts

The minimum you will need is: Power supply, Motherboard, RAM, HDD, CDROM. The manual of the motherboard will tell you where to connect everything. If you don't have it, look online. They are nearly always available on the manufacturers website.

When I hook my cable from the modem to the tower It will not connect to the internet. My internet supplier told me he thought it was the port on the tower

Is it a network cable? If yes then you may need network card drivers for the current one or a new network card. Perhaps buying a usb external one if you dont know how to open and mess inside computers. Show the shop the cable and modem.

I bought the hp slimline s3707c a few months ago and I love it! But due to me being a huge gamer I needed to upgrade my Vid Card. The new card doesn't fit in the tower so I bought a bigger tower and was...

My best suggestion is to get a professional installer to do it for you.

If you want to do it yourself.
  1. take the top of (make sure to ground yourself) and DONT work on carpet if possible. Static is bad!
  2. the HP is nice in the way that it has sliding internal features. So some of the chasis will slide out of the way. Take advantage of this.
  3. BEFORE you take ANYTHING APART make sure the mounting screws of the motherboard line up with the mounting area of your newly bought CASE. Also, make sure output on powersupply on new case comparable to your existing one, and that connector wll fit your MotherBoard.
  4. disconnect all power supply wires
  5. take out Power supply which will give you more room
  6. disconnect ribbon cables (or SATA), remove them.
  7. unscrew mounting screws on motherboard and put it in your new case. Make sure MotherBoard does NOT ground to your case (IE it should not wiggle around) and be put in securely
  8. remove peripherals from your old case and put in your new case (HDD, CDROM, etc.)
  9. connect power supply cables, then ribbon cables (or SATA if so)
  10. Put case together and connect wires in back (Monitor, keboard, etc.)
  11. Your are done, Congratulations!

Check the power supply, if you don't hear any whir at all from the fan, power supply needs to be replaced.

PC power switch needs repair or replacement

Hi There, You are safe to use a just a two wire connection switch rather then then original 7 wire connection. The difference is between the 7 wire allows you to turn the tower on and also reset the tower. if you know the correct connection for onlu turning the tower on, then you can use the 2 wire switch. You can also bring the tower to a PC repair shop, they would be able to replace the switch with a 7 wire switch. I am not sure how much they will charge you since they all make up their own price. Let me know the outcome. It would have been great if you could provide pictures. I would be able to guide you to do the repairs. Mike

Computer shutting down

do you get a blue screen when it shuts off? or... does the monitor just turn off, or does the computer tower and everything turn off?

If everything turns off,(like a normal shutdown) try checking your power options in the control panel, to make sure there aren't some power saving settings that are causing it.

If its a blue screen type issue, then there may be a hardware problem that is causing the computer to shutdown to avoid further damage to the system.
