Question about Hiro (H50113) Analog Modem

Open Question

My Hiro USB external modem will dialup OK, but freezes

My Hiro USB modem will dialup, but when I use it with multiple screens on Firefox, it seems to "jam" (both blue lights are on constantly, as opposed to one blinking). Windows 7 says I'm "connected", but I can't get the web pages to reload (or do anything at all).

It also happens spontaneously after a period of time, even when I'm not using multiple screens.

I've got the latest drivers from the web site.

SOURCE: usb modem driver

there are other peripherals that conflicts with this modem. try to plug this usb modem alone without other peripherals connected and check. if the problem persists then the modem itself has a problem

Hiro h50015 nic on windows 7 says network cable unplugged when cable is clearly plugged in

To connect to the internet, you must have a device like a modem or a router. Is your PC connected to this device? Do you have other PCs or networked devices on your LAN? Can you reach them with ping?

To make it easier to help, you should give information how your network looks! e.g.
internet ---- cisco800 router --- d-Link switch ---- myPC
or something like that. Otherwise it is fooling around in the dark.

H50113 modem takes 1:30 to hang up regardless of message length

Ok, so I tried the modem on a new Dell (C2D laptop), WinXp, USB 2.0, with the XP drivers supplied from the CD, and I still get the same result. Sadly, this is either a defective modem, or yet another driver issue that hasn't been resolved. In any case, I ended up downloading a program called PhoneTray Free which is a Caller ID/Telemarketer Zapper program. This works quite nicely with the FaxTalk software supplied with the Hiro modem. Basically, I can eliminate a number of the 1:30 messages by having the PhoneTray software ZAP the calls on the first ring automatically if they are a blacklisted number. Hopefully, this helps.

Regards

The modem is extremely slow-most downloads are far too slow

Dialup phone lines usually only transmit a minimum of 8 Baud. NetZero's high speed (5X) faster is done by caching pages you have already visited, not actially running internet but loading pages faster on your computer. Check your modem setting, 56k, 112K are normal speed setting to connect. Check your actual connection speed, 28.8 is probably all that you are getting on dialup.
