If your computer keeps on running after it turns black the problem maybe is the LCD. However if the computer is not running after it went black then possible problem is with the MOBO (Mainboard)

Hope it helps.

your only option buddy,is to find and reinstall the original or a compatable operating system.
Perhaps you should check [Manufacturers site***!0]if you can "restore to factory settings " (using a hot key sequence)---FN/F10 (for example)(!)(most pc's are different, thats just an example!
Could also be a "harddrive failure" listen carefully to the pc and see if you can hear the harddrive hard at work!--there will be some fan noise-but see if you can hear the drive working.good luck!!

Dell latitude D610 start up screen goes to black quickly and stays black

It sounds like your onboard graphics has possibly failed. If you have an additional monitor to connect to it you can see if the additional video gives any video. If it doesn't during startup then you have to replace the system board.

I have to turn it on twice! It turns on normally and just when its about to load windows the screen goes black, then I have to turn it off and on again for it to load windows.

You can choose go to advanced startup menu by using F8 during startup and choose "Last Know Good Configuration"

about DVD playback; right click on your DVD drive (Usually D drive) on properties go to Recording tab and check the box highlighted below.
