Question about Dell OptiPlex 210L N (210LNDCELMIN) PC Desktop

1 Answer

My new hard drive seems to be working too hard and becomes non responsive, the fan also engages constantly. Lots of clicks and whirring noises. This is the same problem I had with the hard drive that came with the Dell 210 when I purchased it, which is why I replaced it thinking the issue would be resolved. Are there any known issues with the Dell 210L and it causing hard drives to **** out? HELP! any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Well I hope you didn't replace it with an oem drive, because they ****. Go Western Digital & steer clear of Maxtor/Seagate. However, check some of this first. Go into bios after running for a while & check the cpu temp & board temps out. Anything running at or above 165 farenheit(65 celcius) is in or having a major overheating issue. In that case, a thourough cleaning is needed & a fresh dose of cpu thermal paste put on. While it's open be sure to check that all the fans are working. Some of those optiplex's had 2 cpus so be sure to apply new thermal paste to both, remember to wipe off the old stuff first. If the steps above don't help with the existing drive, download a program called "spin rite" & run that after making a complete image of your drive using Acronis or something similar for free off . While you're at that site, grab Advanced System Care Free edition & run that as well. That's an easy one click program to use & fixes alot of wierd ****. Make sure you go into the diagnose system section, run that also then under utilities run the disk cleanup, internet optimizer, follow the instructions for getting the defrag program & select smart ram (set that so it starts with windows, same with the defragger). If all that doesn't work, replace the hdd with a Western Digital of similar size & if you used Acronis you can simply mount the image onto the new drive & you're done. All your apps, settings & programs are the same! It's like taking someone's brain out, putting it in a pickle jar & putting it back in again with them being none the wiser, lol.

Inkjet printer EPSON L 200 not booting up most times.Makes lots of Whirring noises, Scanner does not seem to initiate. After a lot of whirring and clicking all three lights come on. That's it.

Scanners tend to initiate simply by warming up their lamps and pushing the carriage back to its rest position

Whirring noises generally indicate either the ink pumps or the drive belts are faulty... which here might well mean the scanner drive belt is failing to return the scan heads to the correct position.

That would tend to indicate the belt or the drive motor have slipping teeth or there is a blockage, perhaps from bits of torn paper...

Seems to be a noisy fan on mb4210 combo

Could very well be the fan. The motors can cause interference. There may be a solution to get rid of the noise. Some copper shielding tape may help. You could rule out it being a microphonic preamp tube by turning the amp on as normal and tapping the tubes with something non-conductive. If you hear the tapping noise coming thru the speakers while doing this to a particular tube, replace it. With power tubes, the tops of them turn white on the top when they become microphonic, along with plenty background noise.

My pc is making clicking and whiring noises

It sounds like you have a hard disk drive that's going bad. Take it to a computer expert and have them check it. The "clicks and whirs" might also be a cooling fan going bad.

Louder whirring noise when turning on computer

Usually on startup the fans work a little harder then slow down. On newer computers they still have noticable fan noise. Most of what ou hear while the machine is running after start up is the power supply fan. When it starts to go bad you'll hear it all the time.
