If it runs with the door open the door switch could be defective, otherwise check your heating element high limit/cycling thermostat switch, then the thermal fuse on the side of the vent housing.and also check the power input for 240 volts a.c. if its an electrically heated element,if inside the terminal strip any terminals burn or break off the element can't heat/if its a gas dryer, check the thermal fuse, the high limit thermostat, the radiant sensor on the burner tube or the gas boost and secondary coils on the gas inlet valve, they get weak or open and close off the gas supply

Whirlpool gas dryer (LGR8648PW1) doesn't stop spinning in automatic mode.

More than likely a bad timer assembly. They are usually easy enough to replace if you have basic mechanical skills. The part can be ordered from repairclinic.com.

If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have not taken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then you need to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should take place. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causes for your dryer to fail.

Sounds like you have a dead zone in your motor...could be a replacement motor is called for. or continue to spin the drum by hand till the motor goes kaput...its cheaper

Not drying

I know you cleaned the lint vent but your vent hose is clogged or damaged and there is no air exchange thru the dryer Air can only hold 100% humidity. You could dry your clothes for 10 hours but the air in the dryer is saturated with water and can not hold anymore so your clothes wont dry. Check behind your dryer and Ill bet the vent line is damaged. The problem is the air is not getting out of the dryer. Check the flapper at the end of the vent line. With the dryer running go to the end of the vent hose and there will be no air coming thru.
