I had this same issue with my DV8000 though the main issue with my keyboard was that the computer seemed to think the space bar was being held down and several keys did not work. I opened up the laptop and disconnected the keyboard internally (Note: there are 2 ribbon cables. One for the keyboard and the other for the top funtion keys ie: Power, media controls etc only disconnect the keyboard cable) and installed a usb keyboard to ensure the issue was the keyboard and not the keyboard bios on the motherboard. Once I found this solved the keyboard issue I now have a keyboard on order. Try Amazon or Ebay. I found the keyboard new for $15 as opposed to $70 from HP.

I am still working on correcting an issue with the sound. (Sound stopped working completely)

Clean the keyboard wiith a compressed air can, if that doesn't do the trick try a usb keyboard, if the external keyboard works well then you need to replace the laptops keyboard.

Caps lock light does not show

You can use the accessibility features of Windows to audibly notify you when you've pressed the Caps Lock key. Follow these steps:

Click on Start >> Click Control Panel.

Click Ease Of Access >> Select "Change how your keyboard works" from Ease of Access Center.

Check the Box for Turn on Toggle Keys.
Click Apply. Click OK.

The ToggleKeys feature, when turned on, will beep whenever the Caps Lock, Num Lock, or Scroll Lock keys are pressed.

hope this helps

I can`t get any upper case functions to work on hp 2011 keyboard what key do i press

1.Make sure the "Caps Lock" key is not on. Though this will be obvious to most people, if your keyboard is typing in only upper-case letters it can't hurt to check. Look at the "Caps Lock" indicator light on the top right corner of your HP keyboard. If the light is on, strike the "Caps Lock" key on the left side of your keyboard. This will turn the "Caps Lock" off, allowing you to type in lower case letters again.

2.Make sure the "SHIFT" keys on your HP keyboard are not stuck. Dust and dirt can build up on a keyboard over time, which can cause certain keys to stick. If either of your keyboard's "SHIFT" keys get stuck, your computer will type in only capital letters. Use a toothpick or cotton swab to remove the gunk from the key, which should help it return to its normal position.

3.Unplug your HP keyboard and then plug it back it. This will remove the device from your operating system and then automatically add it back in. This can have the same effect, essentially, as restarting your computer. If your keyboard was typing in capital letters due to an error being stored in your operating system's memory, that error will now be cleared and the HP keyboard will function as normal again.

4.Update your HP keyboard driver. Click "Start" and then right click on "Computer." Click "Properties" and then "Device Manager." Right click on the listing for your keyboard and then click "Update Driver." This will update the computer software that is associated with your HP keyboard. If your keyboard was typing in all capital letters as a result of an error with this driver, the error will now be fixed and you can use your keyboard normally again

How do you unlock the CAPS lock

Hi,

To unlock the caps lock on your keyboard, please click on the caps lock key again.

Check for few iluminating lights on your keyboard as well, as few of the models does have that.

If the Caps lock is ON the lights normally illuminate and If you click on the caps lock key again, the lights go off.

Keys on my hp pavillion dv4 (bronze) are very difficult to read. Is it feasible to replace the keys?

Not the key caps -- the part that has the writing on it. But it is feasible to replace the entire keyboard with a new one. If you have use the keyboard enough to wear the writing off, then you have JUST about used up all the life that keyboard has to offer!!!

Sometimes the keys that have white and blue writing on them will only respond blue. How do i get them to respond as white instead of blue keys?

You have a FNC key on your keyboard. Since it is a laptop, your keyboard can not have all the keys that a normal keyboard has. This is handled by making some keys perform two or more functions. Thus, the alternate key use if the blue keys (function key is depressed). You will pribably find that there is a light labeled as FNC where you see your caps lock, num lock etc.. it sounds to me that you have your keyboard in alternate function mode so that the keys are performing the alternate functions (probably the numeric keys if it is a normal configuration..).
Thanks!

Keyboard locks into all CAPS

Just a thought...one time I had a button that kept stiking itself with out me touching it...I removed the keys aroud it, only to find a tooth pick had found its way into my keyboard. Everytime I would hit any of the keys around it, it would also hit that button too. Dont know if this is your problem but worth a look!!

Keyboard stuck in upper case

Is the caps lock light illuminated? If so, you might have to hold shift and hit caps lock to turn off the caps lock. This is an option for old typists who came from manual typewriters that you might have turned on by mistake.
