Question about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W50 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Sony Cybershot DSC S500

Thanks for replying, the lcd screen is dark and when photos taken are downloaded they are all dark and purple. Incidentally the menus that come up during downloading the photos are normal colours which lead me to think the problem isn't with the screen. The camera is second hand and has had this problem since i have had it so i dont know what caused it but it does look like it has been knocked about quite badly. Also, it is actually a sony cybershot dsc s500 not w50 as i thought originally. We got it free so if we can get it working is a bonus if we break it not too worried.

Cheers, Jo x

I just fixed this problem on the same model last night. the problem is more than likely your CCD on the back of the lens it is what tfers the image to the camera's memory.

Sony cybershot t300 lcd screen remains dark when switched on

Hi,
Your camera must be experiencing these symptoms due to a faulty CCD, and not due to other problems. If the problem is due to your dropping the camera, you might be out of luck.
If you have not dropped your camera and still facing this problem, then contact service people to replace the CCD imager in your camera .

Hope this helps .

Electronic shutter in lens mechanism got bad and you need to replace complete lens assembly of DSC-S500 camera.
Of course new lens assembly would cost more then camera worth so best option is to buy new camera.

Downloaded driver for cybershot dsc s500, then try to interface camera with computer, pc doesnt see the camera in control panel or my computer removable hard drive.

Sony has the roughest firmware known to man for digital cameras. If running Windows XP or Vista you can simply connect the camera to the USB port and let the computer do the rest. Picbrige works the best for it downloads the quickest. Picbrige will be on your cameras list of choices to use for downloading

DSC-S500 LCD Screen needed

Hi guys, got some info for replacemnet LCD screen for Sony Cybershot. Why go used when you can buy new fairly cheap? First make sure that it is the screen that you need and **t the rear cover (is it scratched? if so you don't need a screen, you need the rear cover). This number is for Canada (but there must be a US one too).
1-877-779-9929. This is the parts warehouse for Sony (also k**wn as MTC), the part numbers and costs follow:
LCD Screen part **: A-1209-107-A about $70.00 Can.
Rear Cover Assembly part **: X-2149-431-1 about $40.00 Can.
Be extra careful when popping the dial off of the top, there is a small spring underneath. You will have to remove this in order to gain access to the 2 screws to remove the trim (about 4 screws hold the back cover together) then to the inside of the camera, then it's straight forward. I intend to keep my extra screen for a replacement as it seems there could be a potential problem with these, good luck on your finds.
