Question about HP (56K V90 USB) Modem

I have a dial tone, but will not dial .I have a HP Pavilion computer and use a dial up service. I delt with HP on this 4 months ago and they sent me a new modem, and curred the problem. Now the problem has occurred again and HP wants me to recover my computer back to day one. for the second time within 4 months. My computer is only 8 months old and under warranty and I do not feel I should have to recover again. I know it is the modem. I do have a laptop that connects fine to the internet. NOT MY INTERNET PROVIDER. I have tried to get a supervisor at HP with no luck. There is no other numbers to call accept 800-476-6836 and that takes you over seas. HELP!!!!!

If it is a USB modem, connect it to a different computer, and try it.
If it fails to connect, with _two_ different computers, then the problem is in the modem, not in your HP computer. Give that information to HP.

Or, switch to high-speed "lite" (as in "lite beer"), for about the same amount per month as for dial-up, and throw the modem away.

If you get issues like Faxes can be sent but not received, Faxes can be received but not sent error on your Printer then follow the given troubleshooting steps.
Solution to Faxes can be sent but not received
    ·Initially, you have to check any of the telephone line services are enabled. There are,
    1.Voice Mail
    2.Call Waiting
    3.Billing Tone
    4.Privacy Block
    5.Security Screen
    6.Anonymous Call Rejection

The problem is with my uniden phone model D1364 can't hear the tone when dialing phone


If you can't hear the dial tone, try substituting another phone to detect it. Also, if your Uniden phone is defective it can disable the dial tone when connected to the line.

I keep a dial tone, even when I dial a phone number...can't make an outgoing phone...I keep getting the dial tone. can you please help?


1) make sure is the phone is working good
2) there are tone dial
3) see the steps before o.k see ,if there are another phone having the same problem. The problem is service provider.
4) eliminate any background noise., mute the cordless handset before dialing.

Hp problem


Try to make a new connection shortcut and make sure your telephone line is properly connected on your modem. Also make sure that your password and username is correct. another thing is check that your system date is correct.. Hope this works ! ITTech7574

Swicth from tone to pulse


1) When the phone is in standby mode, press and hold the caller id/menu key.
2) Press the vol/ / key three times to select Dial.
3) Press the select key to toggle between Tone and Pulse.
4) Press the end key or return the handset to the base unit to complete the setting. The handset returns to standby mode.

This phone also has a feature that allows you to use Pulse dialing to make calls, but allows you to switch to tone dialing for automated systems (like “Please Press 1 for English) here are the steps for that:

Initially make your call with the pulse dialing mode. Once your call connects, press
the */tone key. Enter the desired number. These digits will be sent as tone dialing.
Once the call ends, the tone mode is canceled and pulse dialing mode resumes.

Modem, Dial Up Connection Problem


here's some help...go to : start menu,all programmes,accessories,communications and to hyper terminal..type in test, and click o.k.,make sure all the settings are o.k., type in your mobile or your second land line number to test if the modem dials that number.if that test works then contact your i.s.p to check on your account.

Cannot call out or answer a call


The only thing I can think of is you may be in the wrong dial mode. If you do not have touch tone service you will hear the tones but it will not connect. Try setting it to pulse and see if you can call out. Check you volume or see if the mute has been set. Have you tried a different phone? you might want to borrow a phone from a neighbor to see if it is a service problem or just your phone.
