You most likely blew out your power supply but may have damaged other components as well. The power supply converts the AC input to lower DC voltages used by integrated electronics. Even powered down the fax has a circuit that supplies voltage to the internal battery and volatile memory components, Called VSB for "standby voltage" even when it is officially "off", a surge can pass through the power supply and one fried move freely into the system to damage the internal components.

MFC-8710DW has no power

If your Brother machine does not appear to have power, then check whether or not the date and time appear on your Brother machine's LCD. If anything is displayed on your Brother machine's LCD, then it is most likely receiving power. If your Brother machine's LCD is blank, continue to Step 2.
Verify the Brother machine's power cord is connected securely to the power outlet. If you are using a surge protector, extension cord, or power switch, disconnect it and plug the Brother machine directly into the wall outlet.
Please note Brother strongly recommends that you connect your machine to a surge protector.Because To protect your investment against power surges and lightning,
In particular, we suggest that you use a surge protector that is compatible with both standard A.C. power cords and telephone line cords. Surge protectors equipped with telephone jacks will assist in insulating your machine from any power surge that might travel through a telephone line.
If the Brother machine is turned OFF, its LCD will be blank. Please make sure the Brother machine is powered ON by pressing and holding the On/Off or Power Save key. This key is located in the upper-right corner of the control panel.
If your Brother machine's LCD is still blank, connect it to a completely different, known working power outlet. If the Brother machine powers up, then the problem is related to the original outlet.
-OR-
Confirm the power outlet is working by plugging another known working device (a lamp, radio, etc.) directly into the same outlet. If the other device does not work, the problem is related to that power outlet. If a wall switch controls the outlet, verify that the switch is ON.
If your Brother machine still will not power on, please contact Brother Customer Service.

All the program buttons on my Astoria SAE2 were flickering at once. I turned the machine off and on again and it was gone but am wondering why it was flashing.

if the machine runs on 220, then it will do that with a power surge, because sometimes, when there is a surge, it drops to 110 power it is enough to do this, if it is wire and on 110 power, could be a programing issue that is triggered from a power surge. Most likely it was a power surge, that is common, especially if it is 220 power, machine will run if only 110, power, but wont operated fully for the proper steam, boiler temps etc, if does not have enough amp, just enough to flicker. Hope this info helps. Thanks Mr Bean Man from fixya

No power nothing comes on

Did the prob happen after the power went out(storm) and came back on.
Do you have the machine on a surge protector.???
For $20 you can protect you fax machine from hydro and phone line damage.....if you get a surge you lose a surge protector..NOT YOUR FAX MACHINE.

Wont restart after power surge & verifying power supply restored

The control board may have been damaged by the power surge. You should install a surge protection device on the incoming power line, thereby protecting everything in the home from damage.

Whirlpool Calypso - Power surge killed computer

If you are in an area where you get power surges then you need to connect through a surge supressor or else it will keep on happening. It's not too hard to replace a board as long as you make the right connections.

Initial Power surge

look on the back of the unit, for the average numbers for volts/amps..multiply that by 1.66(for peak power) and add a factor of 25% for power factor correction from your inverter. You may want to place a resistor/diode array in line with that, so that any reverse surge from the power cycling of the washer, won't back up your inverter feed.
