Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

1 Answer

Every time i turn my xbox 360 it will get 2 red lights like as if it's overheating then it will go to 1 red light within 3 seconds and it will shut off automatically. i unplugged everything to make sure something wasn't loose. i opened it up to check and see if the fan was working and i also opened up my disk tray but that was in great shape. i also fixed my 360 at one point from the death ring but i think it is the USB ports. can anybody help me out on what i need to do?

Two possibility

First is the G.P.U. and or the C.P.U. has pulled /shifted
away from their heat sinks resulting in a hi fan speed in
1min or less and 2 reds.

The solution is to remove the heat sinks and clean off
the old thermal past and reapply new and put the x clamps
back on.

second is the temp feed line/connection on the G.P.U has become
intermittent and will need to be reconnected.

The solution ideally would be to have the G.P.U. re-flowed
but since you have no money like most of us ,you will
need to get creative. First try the replacing heatsink compound
with articsilver5 and if that does not fix it I'll advice you accordingly
on things to try before you use it for target practice.

Unfortunately there is nothing that you can directly do to fix this problem.

You have a hardware failure. Microsoft will repair your unit for you under warranty / recall.

One red light signifies a major hardware failure or system error[4] , depending on which hardware failure or system error it is depends on how the problem can be fixed but in some cases there is no easy recovery and the console must be repaired or replaced. Two means the console is overheating and must be switched off and left to cool. Three, the infamous 'Red Ring of Death', means a general hardware failure and the console must be sent to Microsoft for repairs. All four red lights simply means that the console cannot detect its AV cable.

SOURCE: e 75 error on xbox 360

I don't know if I answered this before but I have been having the same problem and this is what i've learned. 1st. thing I noticed was the heat sibk was not leveled; after I did the x-clamp fix. ( worked for about a hour. 2nd I replaced the k-patches located on the underside of the board. I replaced all 4 withe better ones I found on the net. It worked fine for about 4 hours. And finally I realized that I wasn't putting enough Arctic Silver paste on. Insted of putting it on the die I put it on the heat sink. Here's the problem when the chip gets hot there just wasn't enough heat transfer between the die and the heat sink. So the more past the nore heat transfer. Keep in mind all that was mentioned before nust be done to get rid of the E74 error. As far as my cosole I have gone 3 months with out a problem. If you don't know what die i'm talking about it's the one on the left under the heat sink if you was looking at the front of your console. Sorry for the long text. I hope this helps you.

Red Ring of Death: Red Flashing XBOX 360 Lights Explained Common Xbox 360 Red Ring Errors The XBOX has a reported 54.2% failure rate which makes the XBOX 360 gaming consoles' worst "lemon" to date. If you find yourself with the red flashing lights error, --> lg.php?category_id=15&content_type=article&content_type_id=2663399&key_page=682482001924178892&site_id=1&bannerid=11791&campaignid=3153&zoneid=23&loc=1&referer=http%3a%2f%2fwww.associatedcontent.com%2farticle%2f2663399%2fred_ring_of_death_red_flashing_xbox.html%3fcontent_type%3darticle%26content_type_id%3d2663399&cb=8da55f49a0 follow this guide to try and pinpoint the problem with your XBOX 360.

1 Red Ring = Serious Hardware Failure
I f your XBOX 360 has a 1 red flashing light error, you're more than likely in big trouble. The 1 flashing red ring of light can be due to GPU or CPU failure, RAM overheating, a DVD drive error, or some serious problem with your Xbox 360's internal components. The most common 1 flashing red ring lights error is the E74 error. The E74 error is no easy fix for the Xbox 360 and usually has to be repaired by the manufacturer [though some have managed to repair it with the heat gun trick - but be careful]

2 Red Rings = Overheating
Mostly all red flashing lights on the Xbox 360 rings are due to overheating in some way or other, but the 2 red rings singles out overheating as the main issue. When doing the X-Clamp fix the 2 red rings are required to fix the Xbox 360 by overheating the CPU. If you get this Xbox 360 error without doing the X-Clamp fix, you probably just need to let your Xbox 360 cool down for a few hours. Make sure that all vents aren't blocked off and that your Xbox fans are working properly in order to repair this problem.

3 Red Rings = Basic Hardware Failure
The most common error on the Xbox 360 is the 3 red rings - also known as the Red Rings of Death (RRoD). This flashing lights problem is the main cause of Xbox 360's 54.2% failure rate. The 3 red flashing lights can be due to lots of different errors but is mainly due to the X-Clamps in your Xbox 360 and overheating. Fortunately, lots of people were able to fix this issue using the X-Clamp and heat gun fix. Follow this list of error codes to find out the real issue with the 3 red rings because there are quite a few of them.

2 red lights

Your xbox is overheating.
1. Let your Xbox 360 console cool. You may have to wait several hours for your console to cool enough. Don't turn on your Xbox 360 console when the console is hot. 2. Verify that your Xbox 360 console has enough ventilation and that the fans are operating. 3. If the two lights continue to flash after trying the above steps, you'll need to contact Xbox Customer Support.

I have 2 red rings on my xbox 360 but i dont understand what they mean...

The 2 flashing red lights may indicate that there is a hardware problem with your Xbox 360 console. The main thing that causes the 2 red lights to start flashing is because of overheating and as the motherboard within the console takes more heat it actually warps and bends until the solders become loose.

Once this happens you will receive the 2 red lights. Even before you get the 2 red lights you may have noticed your games freezing and this is caused in the same way, by overheating. As the chips take more heat they shut off to prevent lasting damage, although they can only do this a number of times until you get the Xbox 360 2 Red Lights.

To fix the problem you need to stop the level of heat the motherboard takes and you can do this in a number of ways, but it will involve opening up your Xbox and working on it. In addition, you could always send your Xbox back to Microsoft as they are offering free repair for this error, you will just need to wait 3-4 weeks that's all.

There is one more option available in the form of DIY Video Guide, that will explain you step by step approach to fix red ring of death within one hour without any technical knowledge.

I have to red lights after about ten mins on the xbox 360 and it?

I haven't got an Xbox Myself but I hear that the red lights mean the console has overheated and its a failsafe to prevent damage. It was something ALOT of people got. Also known by gamers as the "RRoD" Or 'Red Ring Of Death". Microsoft released an open letter giving a public warrenty extension to 3 years.... Basically send it back to where you got it under warrenty for the reason of
"General Hardware Failure" and you SHOULD reseave a new one. Sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear.
Hope it helps!

Flashing lights

I'm not sure, but it sounds like the 360 is overheating. The 3 red rings is general hardware failure which usually implies that the solder has melted and the 360 can no longer detect the ram.
My solution would be to send it back to microsoft, However if you wanted to fix it yourself, there is always sticking spacers (I suggest 3 pennies) to the ram chips located on the bottom of the motherboard. Also remove the X clamps and replace the thermal paste with arctic silver.
