If your mini laptop is alive and well, all you need to do is to connect the external drive to its power supply, then use ONE cable between the drive and the computer, (unless otherwise stated by instruction manual)
then turn on the drive if it has a switch, the drive should be detected and work instantly on the laptop.
The only software that you need is a burning program, to burn disks, the drive should work / read disks without any extra software, that is probably included on the small disk.
