Adding Crucial Brand Memory - getting BSOD and reboot

I am using an Everex StepNote 1501, same as the 1500, except - and boy is this sad - Vista Home Edition. I upgraded with Crucial memory. Now I get the BSOD - blue screen of death - and reboot while using the system. The helpline says, wrong memory - we don't suggest this brand. Of course, Crucial is the major brand in the US. Any ideas? Thank you.

I can still boot with the memory. It works normally with the new memory for anywhere from 15 minutes to a few days. Then without warning, it goes BSOD and re-boots.

Both memory work. The smaller, 512K supplied by mfgr without any problems. I re-inserted it for a couple of weeks without any problems (other than it being slow). The new memory causes the problem to re-start.

    I installed:
    2 each Crucial BP112LP.ZR other number 62371
    1GB 200 pin SODIMM 128Mx64 DDR2 PC2-5300
Which is what the Crucial "product selector" indicated was correct.

    Thanks !

Can you still boot if you remove the new memory?

can you boot if you have the new memory installed, but not the old?

what are the exact specificiations for the memory stick you installed? speed, size, form factor?

    this is an NC1501?

    that model uses

    512MB DDR2 533MHz SDRAM.

    that would be

looks like you installed pc2-5300, which would be bus 333 MHZ

in theory, your memory should still work though....

can you run a memory testing program, to check your memory for defects? it might just be a faulty stick.
