SOURCE: I have the receiver setup

It is possible the system has gone into a 2ch speaker setting.

Check out pages 17 to 20 of your manual for speaker settings.

In case you do not have the manual you can download form this site. Click on download and Scroll down to enter the verification code displayed and start the download.

Hope this helps you to set the sytem up back it used to be. Please rate the solution so that fixya can help you better in future.

I want to set the receiver to surround sound. The indicator only shows two speakers I want it to show five

What is the source of your sound? By default, receiver will use only those channels that are used in the input signal - if you play CD in stereto, it will use only 2 front speakers. If you play DVD with 5.1 audio, it will use all 5 speakers (+ subwoofer if you have one).

However you can use one of the bulitin "sound field program" modes to mix the 2 channel stereo music to all speakers. On front panel, press "PROGRAM < >" buttons to select the one you like. Or on remote control, repeately press MOVIE, MUSIC or STEREO buttons. You can check your manual for description of each sound field program.

I need to know the quality of the speakers on the TV. Try unplugging it from the speakers on the TV and plug it into the souround sound speakers only and see if it plays differently. Double check your sourround sound and makes sure you did not reverse a wire.

Wiring speakers

your main 2 speakers (front left & right)..hopefully the 5th speaker is a subwoofer right if not it will be...the last 2 speakers will be use as the rear (left & right)...in order for this to sound correct the receiver should have a button (5:1) depressed ...otherwise you just have 5 regular speakers...

What speakers are beneficial with this receiver? I want to have surround sound from my TV and also from my other components - CDs and old record player.

Well to get the full effect of 5.1 surround you will need 2 front speakers, 1 subwoofer, and 2 rear speakers. Personally I used 2 tower speakers, 2 rear speakers and a subwoofer. Match the speakers with the RMS wattage of your Receiver. (100x5) or roughly 50 watts per speaker. Yamaha, KLH, Philips are pretty good speakers.

Most likely you have pressed the speaker AB switch, try pressing it again and see if it works.

All speakers are connected, but center 1 and 2 rears are not working.

Front and center speakers connected correctly and test sound works fine. Center speaker icon does not show on front panel of receiver (except during test) and i get no sound.
