Are you absolutely sure you have the exact correct sound drivers installed? Please post me the exact Dv6xxxxxx model from the bottom of the laptop and is the windows 64bit or normal?

64 bit windows 7 (speakers stopped working when vista 32 bit was installed)
not absolutely sure about the drivers, device mgr says Conexant high definition audio, driver date 5/1/2008 version

  • Ekse May 13, 2010

sounds about right, this is the official HP Vista 64bit driver, note that Vista drivers work in windows 7 as long as the bit version matches.

uninstall the audio device and its driver software if you get the option from device manager /right click uninstall or from control panel programs and features / uninstall programs and then install this one

  • garsgr May 13, 2010

installed recommended drivers, did a restart, still no sound, head phones still work one side or other depending on how far plug is inserted into jack.

  • Ekse May 13, 2010

okay so you have sound but its not going to the speakers - you replaced the headphone jack. but it seems that there is a problem with the headphone jack, when there are no headphones in, the sound is supposed to go VIA the headphone jack to the speakers, thats why if you plug in headphones the speakers stop it seems the jack is not relaying the signal forward, the connection is not being made at the back of the plug, like its supposed to when there are no headphones attached.

I had this issue with my HTC phone a while back, the headphone jack was broken, and the sound did not get to the speakers.

I have a video of that somewhere.

  • garsgr May 13, 2010

I guess I'll install another head phone jack and see what happens.

  • Ekse May 13, 2010

you can use a multimeter or just connect different pins on the headphone jack while music is playing and see if you get sound. Basically in the video that I have, I simply connected the back two pins on the board (I had removed the whole headphone jack from the board) and I got sound from both speakers.

Okay I got the video online, unfortunately I did not make the video for fixya, I made it for a completely different purpose and I spoke finish during the video(I'm from finland), but again basically the point is you can see or hear that when I connected the two back pins together to sound started to come out from the speaker, the rest of the video is irrelevant.

  • Ekse May 13, 2010

in the phone case on the video, I used the multimeter to locate the connections needed to be made to get sound, then I soldered a wire to connect them together permanently, the phone is now without a headphone jack but at least the sound works for music / video / and normal phone conversations.

How do I remove/replace the keyboard from a HP Pavillion dv7-2277cl

1. Remove 6 screws from the bottom of the case (as shown). These screws hold the accessory cover.

2. Remove one screw securing the CD/DVD drive. Slide the CD/DVD drive to the left to disconnect it from the motherboard. Remove the CD/DVD drive.

3. Remove all marked screws from the bottom of the notebook.
The yellow circled screws secure the keyboard cover, and the green one secures the HP Pavilion DV7 keyboard.

4. Turn the computer display-side up and open it as far as possible. Insert a guitar pick or small flat screwdriver between the keyboard cover and case and slowly move along the side.

5. Lift the keyboard cover. Be careful, it's still connected to the motherboard. Release the zero insertion force (ZIF) connector and disconnect the cable from the LED board. Remove the keyboard cover.

6. Remove the four screws that secure the HP Pavilion DV7 keyboard.

7. Lift the rear edge of the HP Pavilion DV7 keyboard until it rests at an angle. Slide the keyboard back to disengage the tabs on the front edge of the keyboard from the top cover and rest it on the display.

8. Release the ZIF connector to which the keyboard cable is attached and disconnect the keyboard cable. Remove the HP Pavilion DV7 keyboard.

The dv6000 series was commonly affected by the video card heating up and reseating itself. This was usually a soldering issue. You have a few options, You can either replace the motherboard, or have the motherboard reflowed. Unfortunately the video card itself is not detachable or individually replaceable.

I personally would recommend the second option as purchasing another dv6000 board will likely end you up in the same situation a year or 2 later.

Not power on

Your Pavilion DV6000 laptop is the key to your productivity, which is why it is essential that it turns on when you need it. The DV6000 is lighter than comparable models from other brands, and has a large, sharp display. While it has plenty of processing power, the DV6000 can have normal boot problems as well as problems caused by faulty battery packs that were installed in some units. Attempt to troubleshoot the laptop and find out if the laptop is eligible for a new battery pack.

1.Hard reset your laptop if there is no life at all. Unplug all peripheral devices and remove the battery. Unplug the AC cable and press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds to drain all power. Reconnect the AC cable and hit the power button.
2.Verify that the battery pack is on the recall list if the laptop powers up without it. Fill out the form on the battery pack recall website ( You will have to input the serial number of the battery pack as well as a location to ship the replacement battery if you are eligible.
3.Hold the AC cable where it plugs into the laptop and wiggle it while hitting the power button one time. LEDs that come on and off intermittently indicate a faulty power cable. Order a replacement power cable through HP or a third-party vendor.
4.Write down any visual or audio error codes such as LEDs blinking or unusual beeping. The error sequence will be helpful when talking to an HP support person.

I hope this may help your concern.

Pavilion dv6000 when power button is pressed,

Have you tried to boot the laptop with the power cable connected? Is the charging indicator on when you connect it to the adapter? If the charging indicator does not light up, check if your adapter output and try booting it with the power cable connected.

HP Laptop sound and power button trouble

You don´t have to replace it. Just cut about 1,5 - 2 cm off the end (that´s where mine was broken) and scrape the tracks free with a knife. Then but a small batch of tape behind the end so it will be held in the socket. That´s it, a 10 min fix.

No sound in speakers

Sometimes the speaker internally disables itself when another audio device is connected (i.e. headphones or external speakers) and need to be reenabled from Control Panel. Try this.
