Lcd monitor goes black after 5 seconds

I have a MAG LCD monitor LT1919WDb, i turn it on and after about 5 seconds it goes black, the power light stays on and if i power it off and on it does the same thing. it is a year old. it has vga and dvi inputs, i've been using the vga because i don't have dvi on computer. i don't even have enough time to see if it is set for vga or dvi. the computer works fine with other monitors. i talked to their tech support and they said if it comes on fine for the first 5 seconds then the video card in the computer is compatible. they suggested bringing it into the shop, $100 plus parts, not worth it, any suggestions???

My monitor is first generation KOGI 14inches, it is old but rarely used.

Recently the same thing happened. Sometimes the sreen was so dark that the windows was almost invisible and sometimes it may work fora whole day with any problem. But more frequently, down in a few second after turn on.

I purchased two MAG LT1919WDb monitors at the same time and ran them side by side on my office computer as dual monitors. I purchased them in March of 2007. Last week (January 2009) one of them went black and is doing the exact same thing as described in this post. I just wanted to add that I tried both DVI and VGA inputs and had the same results. I had the brighness on 70 prior to the issue. I lowered the brightness down to 10 and the monitors seems to be working. I adjusted it up and made it to 43 before it went black again. I backed it off to 40 and it seems to be working. I just did this right now so I have no idea how long this will work. I will try to follow up. I am going to try to get by with this level and put off replacing the monitor as it is a secondary monitor anyway.

FOLLOW UP. The temporary fix lasted three days for me. Now the monitor is doing it again regardless of the brightness setting. Game over.

Ok! I guess I am an apprentice now hoping to be a pro soon. Anyway, I read about using a flashlight and shining it at an angle to see if I could see my desk top icons. Yes it worked. I then lowered my brightness to 20 and the monitor works now. I am afraid to move it brighter. Anyway, it should last till I get a new one which it wont be a mag!!

LT1919WDB FLAKEY PICTURE

When the LCD Controller cable is diconnected from the LCD panel, the screen should be completely white due to the Liquid crystals do not have the bias voltage to block the backlight from coming through the front of the screen. Unless you have intermittent shorts circuits on the LCD controller board (part of the LCD panel) that load down the 5vdc (logic power supply). The capacitors on all the board look OK? See the pictures of bad caps in the monitors here and post back what you see on your boards so we can go further with troubleshooting.

The problem can be the lamps are bad, the only way to tell is to remove the lamps, look for poor soldering works where the wires are attached to the lamps, bad lamps will have very dark color at the end of the lamps, just like bad fluorescent lamp you see when it is worn out, anoher sign of bad lamp is pinkish glow when lamp si first turn on. The transistors and caps are good in the inverter section?

Screen goes black after a few seconds.

when the screen goes black shine a flashlight on it. If you see a dim image the back light needs to be replaced. Otherwise check the inverter as that may be causing the problem as well.

Monitor black screen

Your first step in troubleshooting this problem is to plug in another monitor to your computer. If you are having the same problem it is related to your computer. If the second monitor works fine then your original monitor is shot.

I had the same problem. I contact the manufactuer and they refused to fix it. They said it would cost an additional $100 to have it fixed. I have not even had it a year. I thought products sold in America were suppose to last longer than a year? What has happened to companies standing behind there products. Beware of this monitor!!! DO NOT BUY IT!!! LT1919WDB
