When i turn the microwave on the top of the appliance "arcs" i have not used since it has done this - called for a service call. anything i should do now?

unplug it so no one uses it by mistake, it probably has some paint off the cabnet behind the mica guard and the microwaves are arcing off the metal, it will need to be recoated with special microwave paint

Kenmore over the range microwave oven model 721.80413500 keypad just stopped working. No response when pressing any button, even the light and fan button. Microwave was working fine minutes before.

80% of power problems are caused by ceramic fuse locted under microwave cabnet.Use a tester to see if you have continuity. You may just need a fuse.

Wheres the light located

Unplug the microwave and remove the screws located at the rear of the microwave holding the outer cabnet. After removing the screws, slide the cabent to the rear of the microwave and remove. Locate the light and replace the bulb and reassemble.
(Warning) microwave ovens require a capasitor to run, The capasitor can hold a charge that can kill you even if the microwave is unpluged. You can discharge the capacitor with a large well insulated screwdriver touching the two wires attached to the top of the capacitor. It there was charge you will witness a spark and now it is safe to repair the microwave.
I hope this helps.

Had a power outage and microwave did not come back on

Remove the screws at the rear of the microwave that hold the outer cabnet of the microwave and slide the cabnet to the rear and remove. (WARNING) WHEN WORKING ON A MICROWAVE THERE IS A CAPACITOR WHICH WILL HOLD A CHARGE EVEN AFTER THE MICROWAVE IS UNPLUGED. LOCATE THE CAPACITOR AND DISCHARGE IT WITH A LARGE WELL INSULATED SCREWDRIVER BY TOUCHING THE TWO WIRES ON TOP OF THE CAPACITOR. Now it is safe to work on the microwave. There is a glass fuse located somewhere on the right side of the microwave. Check to make sure that the fuse is Ok. If blown, replace. This is the most common problem.

GE PEB1590 microwave oven. Interior light burned

Remove the screws from around the rear of the oven and slide the cabnet off to the rear. You should be able to access the bulb from here.
WARNING: any time you work on a microwave you have to be careful of the capacitor. Unpluge the microwave and discharge the capacitor with a large screwdriver with a plastic handle.
Be careful.
