Question about Sub-Zero 661/F Side by Side Refrigerator

My sub-zero refrigorator is icing up on the first

My sub-zero refrigerator is icing up on the first 2 shelfs. I was told that it was becaues there was a pin hole in the coial and freon was leaking. That does not make sense to me because the setting is on 3. If freon was leaking wouldn't the unit be warm?

Hello
There could be some other reasons for the ice.
1 bad or cracked door seal, have a look at the door seals.
2 Defrost timer may need to be set longer.
3 T sat set to low or not working properly.

Unit may be low on freon also, causing a lower pressure which would cause a lower tempreture, this occurs with a small leak or a pin hole leak.Once enough freon leaks out it will warm up and no longer work.

You can have a leak check done by a service person.

Testimonial: "I was very happy to get such a quick response. I may have not explaned the problem correctly but I did get half the answer. My problem is the refirgorator is to cold and is freezing up on 2 shelfs. I had an appliance company tell me it was leaking freon. How could it be to cold if it is leaking freon?"

    Its hard to explain.

But here goes,Freon in a refrig system is under pressure. Both low and high pressure.

At a given low pressure, freon will absorb heat from an area to be cooled. This pressure must remain the same to have the freon work or to maintain a given temperature. If you loose freon due to a leak the pressure will be lowe rd resulting in a lower temperature creating ice.Eventually if enough freon leaks out there will be no pressure and no temperature making the refig warm, this depends on the size of the leak.

Each refrigerator or freezer or home air conditioner is prebuilt and preset for a certain operating pressure.

Say a refrig with r12 or freon type 12 runs at 32 psig will give a temp of say 35 to 40 degrees f

My refrigerator has temperature a problem. The top shelf is about 60 degrees and the bottom shelf has ice on back wall and partially freezes food.

open the door, push in the two switches on the top,the lights should go out and the fan on top should be blowing, you can remove the light cover to see the fan,if the fan isn't working cold air will stay at the bottom and the top will be warm.if there's an ice block just on the left side back wall around 2 feet up from the crisper draws then you have a freeon leak in the coil and it has to be changed but it sounds like theair isn't ciculating, bad fan motor.

Hi,

It may be leaking but I think more likely is that you have a problem with the defrost system and it is not defrosting properly... that can give the same symptoms as a low charge or leak condition...

Our sub zero recently started forming ice on the back panel of the lower shelf of the fridge. What do we need to do or what might be causing this problem. Thank you

It's probably low in refrigerant ,that means there's a leak in the seal system .Sub zero refrigerators have 10 years warranty on the seal system you should call them.

Freezer not working on Sub-Zero 550 Refrigerator/Freezer

You probably need to defrost freezer - frozen moisture possibly stockedevap. fan motor in the freezer. Turn it OFF for 24 hours and start itover. Make sure no moisture condensation on the freezer compartmentsurfaces as walls and shelfs. If so wipe it out. Pull out and remove upper basket from the freezer, push fan switch which is located almost under ice maker. You have to hear evaporator fan motor start working. Still not work? Call to professionaltechie! Good luck! :)

Sub-Zero freezer 600 series - flashing 'vacuum condenser'. I've taken the vents off and cleaned areas, however, the message light does not come off. And the freezer has formed ice on the back walls.

Our is doing the same thing, except we do not have ice forming on the back of the freezer. We were told by a refrigeration repair company that if ice is forming on the back of the freezer then the compressor is bad.
