Hello janettt24 ,

Yes, 7 blinks indicates power supply troubles. There are several power supplies in this model as well as voltage regulators, anyone of which can be the source of the trouble.

It is usually not a terribly expensive repair, but then I have never seen a repair on a big screen less than $200!

Unless you are technically skilled in tv theory and use of voltmeters, etc., you will need the assistance of an experienced tech (who can identify the problem within minutes

Hmmm... per the sony website, you may need to return the telivision for service at this point.

only two things you might still try:

1. make certain you did not plug the television into a power strip: it should be plugged directly into the wall.

2.: reset the television. looks like you already did, but just in case, I'll post sony's procedure here, so you can double-check:

  1. Turn off the television.
  2. IMPORTANT: For a projection television that uses an internal lamp, wait 5 minutes after turning off the television to allow the lamp to cool before continuing with the following steps.
  3. Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
  4. Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
  6. NOTE: If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.
  7. Turn on the television.

Most likely a part inside the tv has failed, and would need to be replaced. Contact Sony, your dealer, or a local professional for a analysis and asisstance or repairs.

There are hardly any magic tricks we could do to make it work.

If you need more asistance, let me know. Good luck.
If someone knows better, please post.

Hi,

The Standby/Power light of the TV blinks when there is any internal malfunction in the TV. The self-diagnostic function of the TV will cause the STANDBY light to blink or flash when the television detects an issue. The number of times the STANDBY light flashes corresponds to a specific issue.

Few examples are given below; some of the issues may be resolved without the need for service.
1 blink / 2 blinks / 5 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set.
3 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set. The set will need to be serviced to allow a technician to determine the specific issue that needs to be repaired. If the power light flashes three times in sequence in a Lamp TV, the lamp cover is not securely attached. Reattach the lamp cover to resolve this issue.
4 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a back light or lamp power problem.
6 blinks: - This indicates that there is some kind of audio problem with your set.
7 blinks: - This indicates that there is a temperature problem with your set. Please check to make sure that the air vents on the sides and back of the set are not blocked or clogged and there is adequate ventilation around the television. We recommend that you check and clean the vents periodically to make sure the set receives adequate air flow. If the problem continues, the set will need to be serviced.
8 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a video-related problem with your set. If the flash sequence is not listed above or the light continues to flash, follow the steps below to perform a power reset:
Try the following steps to check if the issue can be resolved.
Turn off the television.
Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.

If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.

If the issue continues to occur, service may be required.

Thanks for using Fixya.

I have a Sony Trinitron 32" TV. The picture don't

Hello
Blinking of standby light in Sony sets are fault indications. You just count the number of blinks occur at a time, by switching the set ON-OFF by its front panel power switch, not by the remote control handset. Just do it for at least three or four times, count the exact number of blinks occurs there, and inform it to me through Fixya. Through the number of blinks, I can locate the faulty section, of somtimes to the exact fault location. Count it keenly and inform me. OK.

TV will not come on.

The 7 blinks indicate a high voltage shutdown (high voltage exceeded 33,000V). This is usually caused by a defective regulator. Could you please post the exact model number (KVxxx) and I'll look up the part you will likely need?

Thanks,
Dan
