Question about Dell E173FP (Black) (Dark Gray) 17" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Monitor blank My Dell E173FP 17" LCD monitor suddenly went blank. The green power light is slowly flashing, rather than staying on. When the power is turned off and then turned back on, the screen flashes quickly and then returns to black. I hooked up a different monitor to the computer and that works well, so I know it's the monitor at fault and not the computer.

Similar problem, but I could see flicker in screen everytime green LED turn-off. This happened at rate of 1 per minute. Turning-off and restart did not help. Couple of occasion when I slap it on side ( like old TV trick) and it did come up but after couple of minutes later it went on blanking mode. One time when it was stable t access then I changed setting of display never turn off instead of previous setting of 20 minutes. So now I turn-off the monitor (green light) when the system is not in use and so far everything is working! Any idea

If the monitor power light is on or flashing, but nothing displays, borrow a monitor from a friend. If that works, your monitor needs replaced.

The DELL E172FPb LCD Monitor (switch light flicks green)scr black

hi, extremely common problem for dell 17 in monitors. the capacitors and transistors on the power board internally have gone bad. to get repaired, it may cost 40-50 at a shop. i have repaired these in the past and they always come out well for at least 3 more years. may want to find another monitor though. if you would like steps on how to repair, let me know and i will find my old repair threads to give to you.

You need to open it up and inspect the componente inside, look at the fuse and the transistors in the inverter circuits first, also look for sign of over heating on the board, see pictures here for the guide: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Dell monitor shows blank screen, green power light stays on

Hello,

You have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitorswill blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts calledcapacitors overheating in the confined space of he monitor. If you aregood at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix he problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htmYou can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the pictues and your monitor should workfine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and -connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one thesame way. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repair service for $35 plus shipping. I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.
