Question about Washing Machines

Whirlpool duet sport washer and dryer

The washer recently started making a strange grinding noise when it goes into cycles. i wash big bathmats that my puppy uses for piddle pads quite frequently, however, the washer is supposed to be able to handle big loads, so i don't know what's causing it.

the dryer started acting strange a few weeks ago. the dryer light would flicker and then finally come on when opening the door. it finally stopped altogether, including the power. it acted like the cord might be falling out, causing it to have this intermittent problem, but then we checked the cord, saw that it's fully plugged in...still no power. any advice?

very, very frustrated. we have owned these for less than a year.

That is either a faulty timer control, or more probably a faulty door latch.

I think you need to replace the door latch.

An F1 is almost always a defective main control board. Could try unplugging the unit for a few minutes and see if it will reset. The part # for the board is W10110072. The symptoms that you describe are caused by bearing failure. The water seal in the wash tub has failed, allowing water to leak into the bearing causing the bearings to rust. As the bearings start to rust, they will not roll properly and start to make a rumbling sound. The sound get louder the faster the bearing turns.
It a major job to repair since the washer has to be taken apart and the wash drum needs to be removed to replace the seal and bearings. Get a few estimates before deciding whether the washer is worth the cost to repair or replace. Sorry.

MY washer starts grinding when it starts a cycle

OK, are you certain that the shipping bolts were removed when the washer was delivered and installed? I've had folks that complained after 3-4 years that they're front loading washer was now making all sorts of strange noises when their kids came home from college and really stuffed the washer with clothes, etc.

Check the installation and owners manual for the diagram that shows the shipping bolts that should have been removed from the rear of the washer when it was installed in your home. There are usually 2-4 of these, depending on the brand/model of washer.

If the shipping bolts have been removed (all of them!) then you can pull the washer out from the wall and see if there is something that might be hitting the drive belt/motor underneath the washer. It's possible that a tub suspension spring(s) and/or pulley(s) may have come off their mount causing the noise.

Another thing to look at is to see if the pulley on the motor shaft has come loose and might be causing the noise, as it might have worked loose but still catches on the keyway in the shaft enough to still function.

I usually pull the unit away from the wall with the hoses hooked up so I can remove the rear cover and watch everything while I run the unit through a short wash cycle. That is a quick and easy way to see what might be causing the noise. From there, you can start to focus in on different areas to verify or eliminate them as the noise source. Of course, it goes without saying, be very careful not to get your hands caught while the machine is running and unplug it before you reach in and start feeling around the unit.

  • Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked.
  • Check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure the pump is running.
  • Check the drain pump filter for foreign objects.
  • If the above does not correct the problem, replace the pump.

Whirlpool Duet Sport not running it makes clicks and it grinds

A common problem with noises from washing machines has been the under wire that may come out of small clothes. In the washer they can get stuck in one of the inner basket holes and make a scrapping noise, they can actually make there way into the pump and jam the pump, or make a terrible noise when the pump is running. Grab a flash light and have a peek inside the washer for this. Front load washers seem very common to this happen! If the tiny cloth is showing signs of fraying, may be best not to wash it in the washing machine, replace the cloth.=======
It's noisy Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

hi there,

the grinding noise may be coming from either the pump or you have something caught between the drums.

the f-33 error is the pump drive system error. it indicates that you have lost communication between the CCU board and the pump. the CCU board is the main control board that you see in the front of your washer.

i would recommend that you call a technician to check it out, as you will have to do some checks that require technical knowledge.
