Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

E74 error too. I think Microsoft takes advantage

E74 error too. I think Microsoft takes advantage of too many people. We just tried the towel trick timed it for 30 minutes then my son checked it and it was a green light but we shut it off and are allowing it to cool for 40 minutes. He has 10 minutes to go and his hands are itching to see if it worked. We are going to blow a fan on it to see if that will help cool it down while he is playing the game. We are thinking about trying the vent holes in the console lid just not sure. Who wants to tear up something that cost so much? Microsoft has no integrity. We'll let you know in a few how it goes. C.p.

this means the cpu/gpu has overheated.
if the unit was purchased less than three years ago you can still get it covered under warranty as addressed on microsoft by clicking here. this is actually a serious problem and effects a few consoles, much like the RROD if it is not under warranty you can try doing this and i stress the not. Make sure of this by calling microsoft before attempting this. if you do not want to do the overheat fix i suggest either A. find a company that fixes xbox's and provides a real reflow. Not a heatgun and a fan. But a actual infrared reflow station. or B. Send it to microsoft and pay the money to get it repaired. or C. sell it on your local craigslist or to someone that repairs them locally and use the money to buy a new xbox 360 slim or a used xbox 360 that is working but then someone might have already done the overheat trick and it may not have much life left.

How to Fix the Xbox e74 Error and Get Your Console Working Again The Xbox 360 is popular all over the world but it does have an error that appears all over the world too. You will probably get a black screen with white writing and not be able to do anything about it. It will not move. This problem is caused because the Xbox gets too hot and the heat can effect the video chip, causing the Xbox 360 e74 error, which you can fix.

First of all the connection between the video chip and the motherboard has to be fixed. The cause of the overheating needs to be investigated and remedied too. If you fail to resolve the problem you will have the same trouble recurring over and over.

Switch off the Xbox and unfasten its case making sure you have taken any disks out of the drive. Pull out the video scaler chip and cleanup the connectors on it. This can easily be done with a very soft and clean eraser. Then once the pins are clean line things up and put it back where it belongs.

While you are doing this replace the heatsink and the clamps holding the heatsink in place. Even if you do not replace the heatsink you will need to replace the clamps because once you remove them the screws will have to replaced and the clamps if you want to repair the Xbox 360 e74 error properly.

To discover how to open the console and remove the chip refer to videos on YouTube and other sites showing you how to do this. It is important you do not try and open the case without knowing where the clips are that hold it together. If you do you may end up cracking or breaking the case.

Replacing the x-clamps is very easy and should only take you a few minutes but make sure you have replacement clamps to hand before you start. Once you have done this assemble everything in reverse order and fix the case back together and plug the console in. android

E74 notice. 1 red light on ring....game looked grainy while playing b4 e74 notice appeared

If it is under warranty (E74 is covered for 3 years) contact Microsoft. If not consider finding a reputable person to fix it for you. It is a rather easy permanent fix (no towel tricks, or fan tricks, they only further harm the console in the long run) but it does require some know how.

E74 on xbox 360

i would recommend you turning it back and getting it repaired if you have a warranty, or you can try the towel trick. let it overheat while putting a towel wrapped around the console and it should be working again, thats if you dont want your xbox in perfect condition.

Xbox not reading discs

This E74 represents a dead lens issue. try unplugging for a 5 minute period and plug back in. this should reset the board. if the E74 comes back on your screen, this is a dead lens warning. it will have to be repaired by a local tech shop or Microsoft tech.

Xbox 360 e74 system error

E74 is NOT caused by a bad AV cable, it is NOT caused by the ANA/HANA scaler chip. It is the solder points on the GPU that have cracked. You must use a heat gun and do the XCLAMP to fix it. Shops normally charge $75-100 to fix that.

E74

If the cable is known to be working then there is a 90% chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip connected directly to the AV cable) in rare cases it is the GPU.

1) (Ideally) Send it back to microsoft
2) Get your board reflowed.
3) Try one of the X-clamp mods (following a motherboard reflow if at all possible.).
4) Take a heat-gun to your box
5) Try "the towel trick"
