Question about Dell 922 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Printer reads cover open

The printer display screen reads cover open. I tried to turn the printer off and turn it back on but it won't power off. I unplug it and then plug it back in and it stills reads cover open. I am not sure what cover it is referring to because the cover is not open. After Fixing form feed (by turning printer upside down&shaking untill all rattling stopped then removing a few alien objects) I had to replace dried out ink cartridges. Then I had cover open message. I then heard a new rattle and shook out a black plastic arm/switch thingy. It is 1-1/8" long by 1/4" wide by 3/8" high on deepest point. I released the cover at hinge side catches so it would open fully. I can see a small port on the upper cover with a spring exposed. The arm thingy is a good fit but I can't figure how to snap it back in. Part appears to have no broken edges. How/where can I reinstall this part?

Could you take a picture of this part and the place that it goes and post it on here so that we can better help you out, otherwise I would go to a printer repair shop that could probably pop it in within minutes. If you want an address/phone number of a repair shop, just give me your city and state or country and I can assist further but there is no diagram for this printer online and I don't own one so if you can put a couple of pictures online or wish to take it to a shop, please let me know, thank you

3. Close the cover and wait for the Insert Ink Cartridges message to display.

if it don't work then try this

1.Firstly if the printer is connected to a surge protector or any kind of power strip disconnect it from there and connect the printer directly to the wall jack.
2.Even after that if it is not working then you can perform a factory default reset on your machine
a) Leave the printer turned on and then disconnect the power cable from the printer and then press and hold the # and 6 together at the same time while plugging the power cord to the printer and keep on holding the buttons once you see semi-full reset
See whether it works or not

b) In case if it does not work then perform the same thing but instead of # and 6 press and hold # and 9 and the display will read full reset

3.Also try to connect the printer in a different wall outlet and if possible try with different power cable

error 1203 means either or both cartridges have short circuited and needs replacement..

You will need to perform the following steps to find out which cartridge is defective:

2. Power the printer OFF and unplug the power cable for 30 seconds. Plug the power cable back in and turn ON the printer.
3. If the error message is now cleared from the printer, please perform the "Self-Test" by following the steps below:
{
1. Make sure the printer is in “Copy Mode.”
2. Press the “Menu” button once.
3. The screen will display “Copy Menu: Copies”.
4. Press the left arrow button once. The screen will display “Copy Menu: Tools”.
5. Press the check button once. The screen with read “Tools: Maintenance”.
6. Press the check button once. The screen with read “Maintenance: Ink Levels”.
7. Press the right arrow button until the screen reads “Maintenance: Print Test Page”.
8. Press the check button once. This will start the Self-Test. Once the page has printed, the printer will stop. The test is not continuous.
}

If the printer has detected a "Cartridge Missing" error, then please follow the steps given below:

1. Turn the power OFF.
2. Open the front cover.
3. Turn the power back ON. The print cartridge carrier should move to the install position located in the middle of the printer. If it does not, close and reopen the cover:
4. Reseat both cartridges in the printer and check for the error.
5. If the error still displays, then remove the color print cartridge.
6. Close the cover.
7. If there is no error indicated by flashing lights, the color cartridge has short-circuited.
8. However, if you continue to get an error, repeat steps 1-3, and then go to step 9.
9. Remove the black print cartridge and reinsert the color cartridge.
10. If there is no error indicated by flashing lights, the black cartridge has short-circuited.
11. If you continue to receive an error in both cartridge scenarios, both print cartridges have short-circuited.
