My advise is that you have to update your antivirus, but you can't update your Antivirus without internet. If you update antivirus today then you will be safe from all viruses which are designed recently.

Companies do not want an unauthorized person person working on their products. Even oiling must be done with finesse and with the proper oil. I would try a local businessman who services these products. Not knowing the brand, I can't make further recommendations, but I got an out-of-print owners manual for my car last year by going to Freecycle, a no sale Yahoo trading group.

Maxtor Personal Storage 3200, after years of use my Vista machine now tells me that the USB Device isnt recognised.

However last month I found that the Maxtor is no longer recognisable to my machine. Reading through related postings on other sites it appears that Vista updates from Microsoft may be the reason why this functionality has suddenly ceased. I presume the security updates in particular may have meant that the Maxtor 3200 is also considered a potential threat. The question is who will take responsibility for resolving this issue of Maxtor 3200 users no longer being able to access their back up files via their Vista based machines. Personally I believe the onus is with Microsoft

hope this helps

The problem is all about Viruses, attacking your Windows files and drives. You can try the following steps and hopefully it will result in a positive result.
Step 1-First of all Format and re install your Windows XP home edition with the XP CD. Try the link, if you don't know how to format and install XP on your PC. (http://www.buildeasypc.com/sw/windows_xp.htm)
Step 2- After installing your Windows XP,don't access your other drives,not at all. Just install all drivers and important softwares in the beginning,. Install a browser or use the default Internet Explorer. Download ' Avira antivirus' from the following link- (http://www.avira.com/en/avira-free-antivirus). Install and update the antivirus, if don't know how to update,this is the method. { 1- With the right-hand mouse button, click on the Avira AntiVir Personal tray icon in the task bar. A context menu appears. 2- Select Start update. The Updater dialog box appears. }
Step 3- After updating,Scan the whole computer or do a Full computer scan for viruses and malwares.Remove all viruses and malwares.
Step 4- Goto control panel>>windows update>>check for windows update.
Step 5- Download and install all updates as this time there will be no error message.
Step 6- After Installing all updates, restart your PC and use it as you like.
Hope this will Help !!!

Note: Update your Antivirus regularly so as to be safe from viruses and problems. Use genuine Windows XP.
Thank you for using Fixya !!!

You can not update your software without connecting to the internet, but if your not connected to the internet then you shouldn't be in danger of getting viruses.

Norton antivirus is unable to do live updates

Go to symantec.com, if you renewed, symantec usually sends you an upgrade to your antivirus to your email so you can update to the current antivirus software

A message that won't shut down is on my internet.

It sounds like you have a trojan / virus in your machine.

If you have antivirus installed, update and then run a deep scan.

If you do not have an antivirus installed, I recommend you go to www.avast.com . This company very generously gives free trials of their antivirus software. Download the free edition of Avast professional, and install. It will ask to restart your machine and do a preboot scan of your drive. Allow it. It will then search your drive before the protective features of a virus/ trojan can get activated. A very useful program, or you can simply uninstall when you are finished.

Sorry, I could not solve without suggesting download. Unless you have a resource of antivirus at hand, that is fully updated, you may have no alternative. Good Luck!

Internet explorer opens byitself and AU doesnot work

hmmm.... it appears that you have a virus there in your computer.
Try updating your antivirus and running a full scan. It that doesnt help try downloading the microsoft "One Care" antivirus program - I like it because it integrates well into the Windows system (and it has a 3 month trial).
If that doesnt work then run the Kapersky online antivirus: www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner (this is the best antivirus detecting program that I have found, but you have to remove the "threats" manually, meaning that you have to find the folders in which the Kapersky tell you the viruses are found. It also takes like 2 hours to run.

Last time this happened to me none of the things above worked for me. I had the "Vundo" virus which disabled my Automatic Updates and gave me a ton of IE popups. My last resort was to do a complete Windows re-installation (reformatting the hard drive).

I wish you better luck!
