Question about Bosch 12" Dual - Bevel Compound Miter Saw with Upfront Controls and Laser Tracking 4212L

Miter saw motor slowing down

Brushes are about 5/8 long, however the motor will not go to full speed, it seems like 1/2 speed. there is a pretty good arc coming from the brushes. The brushes do not seem to be wearing any, and there is no burn or hot smell coming from the motor even after continued use.

All mains powered tools will tend to spark a little, even when new, it's a feature of the power passing between the brushes and commutator. However, if the sparking is significantly increased then it's likely that it's a sign of wear in the brushes, or worse, burning of the commutator. It'll need to be taken apart and inspected. New brushes might restore it a bit, or it might need a new armature as well. Often it's as cheap to replace the unit as to attempt to overhaul it! Good luck!

My saw has a weird power surge at start up.

The brake problem could be caused by 3 things. The first thing to check is the brushes. Unscrew the brush caps or pull the back housing cover off and check them (depends on the type number). The brush holder and everything should slide out. They should have clean smooth action going in and out of the brush holders.

Next thing to check is the switch. Does it have a clean click when you use the switch and when you release it? Sometimes dust gets in there and messes with it.

The last thing in the field coil in the motor. The current is reversed when the switch is let go and slows the motor.

It's probably the brushes.

Makita LS1221, started heavy sparking from both brushes with greatly reduced speed. Brushes are ok. I'm assuming it is a shorted winding on either the armature or stator, how do I determine which...

you need to make sure the brushes move freely in the tubes and if they do I would suspect the armature is bad. LOOK for discoloration in the commutator thru the brush tubes.

My 10 inch mikita slide saw just quit working. I tested the trigger switch and it seems to be fine but the saw motor won't run. Does anyone have any ideas?

Try another tool in the same power outlet. It may have popped a breaker. Make sure the blade turns freely. Does the motor have brushes that should be looked at? Hope this helps!

The saw do not stop when i off the trigger

the commutator might be dirty, try and turning the brushes 180 degrees and you might have to clean the commutator with a stone for that purpose to seat the brushes.

DW705 Miter saw Spark in motor Compartment

Yes spark in motor compartment is normal. You only need to worry if you see a lot of sparks flying out of the motor compartment! Most power tools will spark inside the motor compartment (particularly if carbon brushes are used).

Bevel and miter could be off... Consult your manual for how to adjust these correctly, but usually the bevel has a 0-degree setting screw or adjustment, and the miter adjustment on the saw is usually done by altering the fence position... Again check your manual for specifics on your saw.

Delta 36-075 miter saw. Motor ok, but blade will not spin

It sounds as though one or both of the items are stripped. They mesh to drive the blade so I would not take a chance on just replacing just one. Also when you look at this you might also want to look at replacing the bearings and brushes. Make sure you clean out the gear housing or you will have immediate problems again. Also check where you buy these parts for their recommendation on the grease that needs to be used.

Makita LS1013 miter saw motor runs very slowly

Could be a bearing problem. If the bearings are dry and seizing up they will hinder the motor speed. Alternatively, if they are worn and allowing lateral movement in the motor the armature will rub against the field windings when it all magnatizes (sp?). I would investigate bearings before electrics. Hope this helps, good luck.
