Cancel printing, and turn off the machine. Then clear the jammed paper or protective material that is preventing the Print Head Holder from moving, and turn on the machine again.

Please use the link given below. Choose your operating system and download the manual.

You have probably whats called a carriage jam. Its a beam kind of thing on which the carriage rides on. If there is some obstruction( usually, pieces of paper, dried ink etc.) then it has to be cleared. Turn off the printer and open the cover at the top. When you see the carriage then power up the printer and push it in the direction it is trying to move. Once thats done take a clean cloth and wipe the carriage beam. Turn off the printer and turn it back on and see if you are able to print.

The most common mistake people is not removing the protective tape. If you have already done so but the printhead still does not move to the right then, make sure you have moved the scanning support unit back to its original position before closing the scanner cover. If problem persists then remove the cartridge and follow the instructions carefully on page 68 of the manual below

If you did it correctly then you should see the cartridge holder move to the right.

The printer do not recognize the ink cartridge. Tray to keep pressing the ENTER button for 5-6 seconds, the one marked with a small triangle into a circle. The cartridge must be the same type and compatible (40-Black, 41-Color or 50-B, 51-C)

Canon printer mp610 is displaying 5010 error. turned on and off, but still displaying error msg.

I found this on another site. It is for error code 5100 but since nobody seems to find the exact answer for 5110, maybe you should give it a try. If this helps, email a "thank you note" to the person who wrote this, his email address is at the end of this message.

As a technician, I have worked on tons of printers. This particular error had stumped me for a while, but I finally found the cause. As others had pointed out before, it can have a lot to do with some obstruction in the print path, the gears, or ink on the clear plastic encoder strip. You're on the right track - I found the the purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) was not lubricated well enough from factory. If you lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps) the mechanism can now slide more freely, and the unit can park the head properly without giving you the dreaded head homing error 5100. Keep in mind that this repair will probably require you to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism. There are two screws behind the printer, and two in front for each corrosponding side panel (the front screws are behind the grey front panel of the printer - open the top cover to see the clips which hold the front cover on) Hope this helps some of you out.

Error code 5110 on MP500 Pixma printer

This could be the problem - Take out your catridges and slide the cart over towards the left a bit. You will need a little mirror for this. Look through the rectangular cutouts at the bottom of the carriage, and find what looks like 2 very tiny black sensors. I think these pick up the lights from the LEDs in the cartridge, and I spilt ink on these while refilling my carts. Take a cotton bud and clean these off. As soon as I did this the error went away and printer is 100% OK again. (This was an MP530 - but should be similar) Cheers.
