Some devices have a restriction to the maximum memory it can accept. Please check in the user manual of your camera. Most probably, it is due to the high capacity of the card.

My JVC-GRHD1

This camcorder will use SD cards. However it will not use SDHC cards such as your 16GB Lexar card. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

I have a GR_D90 Camcorder- it will not read the memory card-New 16gig-SD card what shall I do? will the recorder still work if the card does not? where can I get replacement CD-rom for this camcorder?

According to the manual, the GR-D90 works with MMC or SD cards. Your new 16GB card is actually an SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) card. While SDHC cards will fit into an SD slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work. SD cards max out at 2GB in size.

Do i need a sd card to operate my vivitar 410

Yes you do. The Vivitar DVR 410 requires a standard SD memory card (up to 16GB) to record images or video. The 410 is NOT designed to accept SDHC memory cards so make sure you purchase the proper type.

I have inserted an 8gb SD card and it will not record

If it is 8GB, it is an SDHC (high capacity) card. The protocol for SDHC is different than that for an SD card. SD card protocol handles a maximum of 2GB. This camcorder came out in 2003, well before the SDHC protocol was developed, and the camera is not compatible with it.

I have the SD-1. It stops recording on my 8gb after only 43 min

Try formatting the card while its in the camcorder, this might sort the problem for you, also look in the camera's menu to see if its restricted to a certain amount of used memory at once, basically return the camera to factory settings.
I find a lot of camera's don't like certain SD cards anyway even if the camera says it supports them, Sandisc are making just about the best SD cards at the moment

kind regards

Problem with memory card

Hi,
your camera can only read so many partitions
( File Allocation Tables )
( partitions are sections of the total volume )
Like slices of a cake.
which equals 4 GB, total.

so it will never be able to read more than this.

Like FAT32 on a Pc, will read 32GB
but you could have a 100GB hard drive in the machine, still reads 32GB only, so even on a PC 68GB would be wasted.

The file format on the camera can not change,

So you are stuck with 4GB max reading.

Hope this halps
Regards
Richard.
