Dishwasher stops running and won't drain

My GE Profile Dishwasher (PDW8280J10SS) stops running before it has completed draining. I hear it start pumping the water out and can see it go through my garbage disposal. As it pumps I can hear the pump getting louder - like possibly the pump is having to work too hard. After about a couple of minutes and before the water has drained, the dishwasher just turns off. All of the lights on the display are off. (Usually at the end of a cycle, the ''clean'' light is lit.) I've cleaned the air gap, and can't find anything plugging it up.

remove the drain hose and make sure its not plugged with food debris then hit the drain/cancel button and put the drain hose end in a bucket and see how much water comes out of the end of the hose if any,if the 2 green lights are flashing this too is a clue to this problem, also make sure you can hear the drain pump running when you start it as explained in the above statement

GE profile dishwasher won't drain. It has happened twice now

Hi

If you can hear a humming noise, then that is the problem due to pump. The pump gets energized but not rotating probably due to something stuck in the impeller. Check for that impeller unit and try to replace it.
A clog in the drain line or air gap (if there is one) is the usual reason that a dishwasher won't drain. Often the problem is at the point where the drain line attaches to the garbage disposer or household drain line. If you remove this line, you can clear any debris from the hose or hose connection. Be sure to reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher again.

Thank you !!

GE profile dishwasher won't drain

Common cause of this problem is a partially blocked drain line. Disconnect drain line and make sure entire path is clear, including where it connects to the sink drain or garbage disposal. Also, make sure all screens and the drain area at the bottom of the dishwasher are completely clear.

DW will not drain

If the dishwasher is not completely draining, your dishes probably aren't as clean as they could be either.

Most dishwashers have a filter screen to keep solid food from getting into the pump. This could be stopped up. Also look for kinks in the drain hose.

Can you get the water to drain at all in any cycle? If you can, then its possibly the control module .

If you can't get it to drain in other cycles or when you cancel the cycle, then its a possible clog in the drain outlet hose, drain solenoid, or screens.

Here is a good detailed link to check out that explains about it:
