Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I regularly use Disk Cleanup, as you should, to help clean some of the 'junk' out of my system and free up space. However, there are a couple things listed here I do not understand and am not sure I should 'mess with'. Let me say first that I have used up 20gb of my hard drive. I know not much, but I just recently did a new install. In Disk Cleanup I am comfortable deleting everything, but for two areas. They are: 1) System queued Windows Error Reporting Files: 988mb 2) TWO listings for: Per user archived Windows Error Reporting Files: 78.3gb each. That's GIGAbytes, not megabytes! I am wondering if I can safely delete #1. I think I can. But I don't see how I can delete #2. In the first place, I have only 'used up' 20 gb on my hard drive, so what is this anyway?? I'd like a definition of each and the green light or not to delete the files in each one. Thanks.

1. Queued Windows Error files are files that are stored so that if you contact Microsoft for support it can be read or provided to them for diagnostics. They contain the error codes and information for boot errors or application errors.. THEY ARE OK TO DELETE IF SYSTEM IS RUNNING FINE.

2. Archived Windows Error Reporting are just accumulated reports from the first type of file above. YOU CAN DELETE THEM AS WELL BY CHECKING ALL THE BOXES IN DISK CLEANUP AND SAYING DELETE ALL.

Freeing up extra hard drive space

Are you out of hard drive space but can't find anything you'd like to remove from your computer?

Maybe you should try doing a Disk Cleanup.
Disk Cleanup will remove unnecessary files from your hard drive and if it hasn't been done on your system previously, free up a lot of space in the process.

To do a Disk Cleanup:

1) Go to My Computer.
2) Right click on your C drive.
3) Click Properties.
4) Click the "Disk Cleanup" button next to the visual representation of your hard drive space.
Disk Cleanup will calculate how much space you can free up and
what should be removed.
5) Under "Files to delete" select any files you don't want or need.
Generally all of the tabs can be selected and none of the files are
needed by your system. Below on "Description" you can view what
the files listed under each tab are for.
6) Once you have selected all of the files you want to remove click OK.
7) Disk Cleanup will remove the files from your system.
Disk Cleanup is complete.

Hp netbook is running so very slow

A slow computer could be caused by a number of things - 1. Insufficient RAM (memory) - if your computer has less than 512Mb of RAM then increase it to at least 1Gb of RAM. 2. Registry problems - clean and repair the registry, it will contain unused registry keys. Use programs such as Registry Mechanic, Microsoft RegClean etc. 3. Uninstall/remove unused programs, this will also free up hard disk space. 4. Not enough hard disk space - swap file space may need to be increased if Windows hasn't been configured to manage it. 5. Install latest Windows updates. 6. Update virus definition files and scan computer for viruses, Trojans, malware etc. 7. Clear the Internet cache for faster browsing. 8. Hard disk maintenance is required at least once a month to keep it functioning efficiently. Run the following programs - Disk Cleanup - removes temporary files that are no longer used and to recovers hard disk space. Disk Defragmenter to make fragmented files into contiguous files and therefore the hard disk access is faster.
