Re: connecting my laptop to my Cello mtv21d flat screen...
Depending on the laptop, the usual way to do this is to connect the VGA cable to the laptop and the TV. Select the VGA input from the television remote and press FN+F4 to switch the image to the television set.

Some details are needed - what type of connection from laptop? VGA 15pin or composite video for example. What kind of TV - I assume some modern flat panel. Did you use the function key on the laptop to send the video signal to the external port. Audio gets supplied to the audio port all the time so that is why you have audio, but the video signal is normally directed to the LCD screen. The function key (F5 or F7 typically) changes this and blanks the LCD and send the signal to the external ports. Press again and you get both LCD and external ports together. This is absolutely the most common problem with people hooking a laptop up to an AV system or device.
Is the VGA port enabled? Have you set the computer to send data to the port? (The first may be part of the BIOS or the Device Manager. The second is in the graphics properties - right click on the desktop.) Reboot the computer to make sure it sees the new hardware with the monitor/TV on. Is the cable good? Try another one.
I had the same problem with my Samsung series 6 32" Lcd. After many hours of trying different settings and banging my head on the wall I found the solution. What the problem is your VGA cable not supporting the high resilotion of your Samsung TV. The simple solution is to buy a new VGA cable that supports HD. Take a look at this site you need something like this one! Hope this helps.....C
The TV works fine with other inputs (cable TV), right?
The laptop is plugged into the VGA port on the TV and the input setting is set to "VGA", right? (or does toy computer have an HDMI port that you are using?)
Is it a laptop or a PC?
If it's a laptop and the TV is connected correctly and functioning otherwise, you need to turn on the remote display port of your laptop. It's a key sequence that toggles from laptop -> external -> both.
If it's a PC, it might be a signal incompatibility. Try different resolutions or refresh rates.
sounds to me like a connection problem. If the compaqs output is vga, you need to convert the input (tv side ) to hdmi, component, s-vidio... what ever you can find. Typically when you hook up your computer to a flat screen or such, its best to try to use the hdmi ports or the rpg. But if thats not available you need to take the outout from your laptop ( whatever type that might be and input it into your flat screen tv. If you input laptop into tv under ( eg..HDMI) then when you VIEW it you need to select the correct source on your flat screen. Such as hdmi or pcmi or rpg.I know that the do sell alot of cables that adapt from one type of connection to another. Typically only one cable is required from the laptop to the flat screen. If you think about it you are only using the flat screen as a monitor.
yes sir..i think you must looking and buy VGA adapter 15 to HDMI complete with the HDMI cable set. you can find this adapter at the computer spare part store or electronic part store. not cheap but very usefull for you in the next day. is very easy to connecting...plug you adapter to the output VGA VAIO.. connect the HDMI cable to adapter (like USB) and the rest to the input at your samsung lcd...good luck..
It it really has 11 pins I'm not sure but then my guess is that this is the service port connector which normally should have 9 pins. A vga connector has 15 pins and LG (as far as I know) uses standard 9 pin serial ports for service and plain old dvi or vga ports for connecting a computer.
