The passphrase is six or eighteen digits based on encryption method used; not very likely to be broken by guessing.

Let me be a little clearer for you.that the previous response

In almost all countries it is classified as HACKING or THEFT if you use other people networks / WI-FI without permission in the way that you wish to do it.

If you are very good friends with your neighbour you could of course ask permission or even offer to split the cost of his INTERNET.

FixYa does not condone hacking in this method. You could if you wished and you lived close enough to a real free WI-FI hot spot use that as an alternative.

If you are not close enough you could try the following. I have used both the commercial and home made types with great success.

http://www.turnpoint.net/wireless/cantennahowto.html

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1084533&CatId=374

Other than that you would have to subscribe to a regular internet service provider (ISP)

They can get a wifi hacker antenna for $30 on net that will break any code! I have one. It's the problem of YOU to lock your router NOT someone else that uses it. It's in yr name YR responsible for anything that goes on! Won't do any good from people like me that can hack lol

If the system is locked it was locked for a reason and that is No internet for you. For us to tell you how to compermise your nighbors router would be vutting very close to account closure. So I would advise you to ask you nighbor if you can barrow it first and then depending on the ranges you will have signal and speed and what not. This shure reminds me of this video!Have a nice day I hope this information makes you rethink before asking for a password.

This man has some good points to protect her but he's complete ignorant of the law!! He's gotta play mr perfect when he admits he's don't it himself!! It's the responsibility of the router person to lock their router NOT the responsibility of everybody NOT to use it! It does not matter if they put wpa. Wpc, MTV or any other lock on it!! I can order a wifi code breaker on the net for $30! Actually I have 1 and use it! Now come back mr know it all

Acer doesn't connect to protected wireless internet

It looks like you've keyed it in once, but you keyed it in wrong, so the system thinks the security key is there.

Which Operating System?

You can try connecting to another secured network and see if it asks for a security code, then try going back to your network.

Try getting to the security code by going to the wireless network connection and highlighting your network then click properties.

My new laptop doesn't work

To connectyour computer to a wireless router, you click the Refresh networklist, then Choose your wireless network and then click Connectto your secured Wireless Network, it will asks for a Network Keybefore allowing you to connect into your wireless network. This NetworkKey is either the WEP, or WPA or WPA2 Encryption key that is used toconfigure the Wireless Router. The Passphrase is an alternate way tosetup the Encryption key.
When you are requested for a Network Key, you can just enter the Passphrasethat was used to configure the Encryption key in the wireless router.http://www.fixya.com/support/r5270415-network_password_network_addressFor information on securing your wireless network, configuring the wireless router and configuring the wireless card in thelaptop/computer, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

Security lock has vanished, how do I make my system secure again?

you will need to browse to the following location 192.168.0.1 on internet explorer or another browser.
the default login/pass is
  • Username = admin
  • Password = password
  • or pass = 1234
  1. From the left-hand navigation menu of the Router Manager, select Set Up > Wireless Settings.
  2. From the center screen, select your encryption type from under the Security Options heading.

    • If the wireless network passphrase is visible, review it and use it to log devices onto your network.
    • If it is not visible, you can change your wireless passphrase; however, changing the passphrase will cause you to lose your wireless connection. Connect your computer to the router with an Ethernet cable before entering a new passphrase into the text box and clicking Apply.
