Clean the coils real good and verify the compressor fan is ok. Feel the compressor, if it is real hot or stone cold you might just have a bad compressor relay. Remove the relay and look for signs of wear like burnt marks or loose materials inside the relay. Here is your service manual

I have a Turbo Air TGF-49F freezer and it is not cooling. The compressor unit seems to work but when I turn the unit on all I hear is the compressor running continuously but nothing gets cold.

Difficult for you to check this I'm afraid, if the fan on the cooling unit is working unless you have an experienced 'ear' you will not hear the compressor running or worse still occasionally clicking.
Possible faults are
1. Compressor not running (the fan will run even if the compressor does not) electrical fault
2. Compressor seized (consult your service guy) also true for the rest of these
3. Compressor not pumping
4. Refrigerant leak

Not much hope for a cheap repair

Side by Side Model # ED5GTN It is not staying cold - freezer let everything defrost and fridge not staying cold.

Open the freezer door and listen for the freezer fan . If you do not hear the fan , tap on the refrig thermostat knob mediumly . If the freezer fan comes on , then the thermostat is bad , pt # 2198202 which is located behind the knob . If you DO hear the freezer fan , then the overload / relay on the compressor is bad which is pt # 8201786 ( comes with instructions ) . Both are easily repairable . If any problems , reply back for more help .

Frig won't cool RM2652

You'll need to get in touch with the store you bought it from but Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay. Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

Is the evaporator fan in the freezer running. It blows cold air into the fridge side through a damper in the wall between the freezer and fridge. Make sure the damper is open.

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).

How do I find a burning smell coming from my refrigerator? The freezer part is not staying cold. The compressor is very hot. I think that is what I smell burning. The fan next to compressor is moving very...

The slow fan could be the problem. The compressor is over heated and not working properly. Let it stay off long enough to cool down and put a fan to try temporarily and be sure tha is the only issue. It may have cooked the compressor.

Freezer and Refrigerator wont get cold

Good day,
Looks as if you covered most bases.
You didn't say if the fan motor in the freezer compartment is running. Open the freezer door. You should be able to see and hear it. if not, remove the rear panel in the freezer and inspect and replace if needed. If no luck here......
Based on everything you said, it sounds as if you have a serious problem with the sealed system which includes the compressor.

You do not recharge a refrigerator. You fix the leaks, and then recharge. But it could be a restriction in the internal system, or possibly bad valves in the compressor.

In either case, you'll need a qualified tech to sort it out.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I have a frigidaire gallery series frig side by side with ice and water in door. The frig part won't stay cold. It also seems to take long time to make ice. The frig part works ok for awhile and then...

Check for two things. Look under the refrigerator and make sure the compressor fan is turning.

Second, check inside the freezer for proper operation of the fan that moves cool air throughout the freezer and refrigerator. If this fan is working, you can probably hear it. It should be behind an access plate in the freezer (near the top). Remove the plate and look at the fan. If it's not turning, you will have to replace the fan motor.

The Refrigerator does not get cool but freezer works fine

Make sure that you are not overloading the top shelf of the refrigerator section. There is a small vent near the top where cold air blows in. You should also be able to hear a fan blowing as well when the compressor is running. The fan will be easier to hear when the freezer door is open. If you can't hear the fan, likely the motor has gone out and the cold air is not circulating like it needs to be.

Freezer is not staying cold. The freezer is on but its not staying cold enough to keep the food frozen. The Ice maker switch is turned on but ice is still melting. Turned the control to coldest but still...

Sounds like the evap. fan motor is not turning. What is the freezer temp. have you measured it ? What about the fresh food section, (fridge compartment).

Anyway, try this. Hold the door switch in the closed position with the freezer door ajar and see/listen for the fan coming on. If you can't be sure, the best way to do this is to first turn the thermostat all the way to the "off" postion, and with the freezer door ajar and holding the door sw. closed (pushed in). turn the thermostat back on. (you may need to turn off then back on first if your arms aren't long enough) You should hear the fan motor start.

NOTE; you may hear the compressor overload "click" off if trying to start it right after shutting down, this is normal (under short cycles or manual restarts). You may also hear the condensor fan motor run (under the fridge by compressor) this too is normal. try to indentify the freezer fan (evaporater fan motor) running or not.

good luck.

Side by side gss22jf,fridge at 50 degrees

A quick stop at my local appliance store with some info for the tech.
and It was clear that the problem was in the evaporator(freezer)
section. turns out the defrost element($40.00) was the culprit.
It was so easy to change. Please be certain to unplug the refridge if you try this at home. This sure beats spending another $1,000.00 on a new
fridge. Good Luck
