SOURCE: inserting needle on old singer machine

Hi Terry--

If your machine is 40-50 years old, it might be a Singer Featherweight portable. (If it is, you have one of the very best machines ever made!) On the Featherweights, the flat of the needle faces left (and the needle is threaded from right to left). The bobbin goes in a bobbin case; you'll see a small notch when you look down on the bobbin in the case. That's where the thread goes. I'll email you direct with more information.

SOURCE: Replacing needle on Elna Pro 905 DCX serger

Try and loosen the screw, and use a magnet to pullout the broken piece. It likely slightly bent in there so you may need a pair of tweezers as well

SOURCE: I have a Singer 6233 and the drop in bobbin is too

I went online and found a diagram that showed where the screw was to loosen or tighten the drop in bobbin thread (it faces the front) but it couldn't be seen until I slid the sliding door totally off. I had to use a flashlight and very small screwdriver and was able to loosen the screw a tiny bit and it solved my problem. I've been sewing for over 40 years and didn't know how to adjust the tension on a drop in bobbin until now. You learn something new everyday!

I changed broken needle but accidently both of them came out now the left needle does not stay in

Assuming this is a serger? Is there only one needle set-screw on the machine or one set-screw for each needle? If there are two set-screws, then you may have accidentally lost the set-screw for the other needle. If there is only one set-screw, both needles will need to be installed at the same time, hold them all the way up and simultaneously tighten the set-screw.

I have an older model singer serger Model 14U85 Ultralock. The chainstitch needle set screw hole has stripped. Can that whole piece be replaced on my machine?

Call Singer at 1-800-4singer and see if they can sell you that part. I am sure that they can because they do not change the parts that much on the machines. Good luck
