Question about Daewoo DP42SM 42 in. HD-Ready Plasma Television
Lightening can damage equipment in two ways.
A nearby hit can travel in via the power lines or via the signal inputs equipment is connected to.
If via the power lines you will have dead units. I would suggest it came via the the signal path. Static electricity can do odd things. Lots of parts in the set and whatever is connected to it can be damaged as they are static sensitive and most surge protectors do not work fast enough to prevent this.
To determine where the problem is find some other piece of equipment that you connect to the HD input and see if it works---Lots of Blue Ray and other items are able to do this.
If you have the same problem with an external unit that is HD hooked up the trouble is in the set. The most likely source would be the "main" board which processes all signal in the set and is usually connected to all the inputs directly.
The question here is if this is the case they only sell boards and Daewoo is not a company that likes to sell boards.
Another possible way to pursue this is if you have homeowner or renters insurance see if you are covered for this kind of damage.
