Question about Acer Computers & Internet

Acer desktop PC locked up and now won't turn off or boot up

Locked up while on a website and could not get to 'control-alt-delete.' Mouse locked, too. On/off switch would not work (stayed lit) so I unplugged the power cord. When I tried to re-start the computer I could hear a fan running but it would not boot up, nothing on the monitor and no lights on the keyboard. Vista Home Premium was preloaded so I do not have a boot disk.I tired pressing F1, F2 and F11 and with monitor off but nothing worked. Computer has not been been moved or abused so all internal connections should be fine. Have updated Windows Vista Home Premium regularly and also updated Avira anti virus and anti malware programs regularly. Using Firefox and Vista Home Premium O/S. Computer is 2 years old and was purchased new from Best Buy.

Hello,

I've seen a similar issue on Acer Veriton 7900. When you unplug the power chord while the machine is still running the BIOS/CMOS gets bugged up. If your PC doesn't have a 3 year warranty you can clear the CMOS/BIOS. To do this, note the following...

1.) Unplug the power cord

2.) Remove the CMOS battery from the unit

[OPTIONAL] move the jumper on the mainboard to the 'clear position' It should be indicated on your mainboard. After 30 seconds move jumper back on original position

3.) Wait for 30 seconds

4.) Place CMOS battery back into its position

5.) Reconnect the power cord and attempt to power on the unit.

How do I unlock my cursor? I can not move it.

Try holding the power switch for 15 seconds, or until it turns off your computer and then restart it again and see if that helps. Also check if an external USB mouse (from a desktop computer or from a friend) works. Plug it into your laptop and wait for it to install(up to several minutes) and see if it moves the cursor.

I'm locked out forgot password

If you can tell me what the Os do you use, it could be must better.

On XP you can try this:
Boot computer and press Ctrl+Alt+Delete twice when you See Windows welcome screen / login screen. It'll show classic login box. Now type "Administrator" (without quotes) in username field and leave password field blank, press Enter and you should be able to login Windows.
Now you can reset your account password from "Control Panel -> User Accounts".

On Win 7 or Vista:
Ctrl+Alt+Delete won't work, you have to use some windows password reset tool. I recommend Windows Password Reset.

With out mouse

Please give us more details if you really want help.

See if the mouse works in Safe Mode. You mouse or keyboard may have been hijacked.

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn itback on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFEMODE. Take the Safe Mode option and let it boot up. Safe Mode will lookdifferent to you, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, this isnormal.Check your mouse properties in the Control Panel. Click Start/Control Panel then look for mouse. You can set the mouse back to default settings.

Check to make sure you have not locked the mouse on the keypad. On some systems there will be a button at the top in the middle of the keypad, just press it to toggle the mouse on or off. Other systems will allow you to toggle the mouse on or off by keystrokes such as pressing and holding the ALT, FN or CTRL key then hit the key that controls the mouse keypad. The correct key will sometimes have a finger pointing into a square which represents the keypad.

Key board 4000 not working, mouse work, replaced the batteries

Try using CTRL, ALT, DELETE. It sounds like you may have locked your
keyboard by accident. Once you hit CTRL, ALT, DELETE, it will bring up the
log in page. Simply enter your password, if any, and you should be good to
go.

My mouse and think pad do not work

There are 2 possible answers to this common issue, the first is that the aspire has a mouse lock. check your keyboard on the function buttons for a picture of a mouse with a line though it, hit function and at the same time press the mouse with the line through it and if its locked off this will turn if back on. The second answer is driver issues, if the first suggestion dont work I would go to the Acer website click on downloads and drivers and enter your model number. Then download and install your think-pad and mouse pad drivers and install.
