Question about True TD9538 Beverage Cooler

3 Answers

I need the troubleshooting on when you call a repairman. They iced down the compressor to get it operable again, didn't chage with froen replaced fan motor, took them 3 service calls to tell me it was a leak in the evaporator coil of my bottle cooler. Shouldn't a repairman check for leaks in evaporator coil first or at least the pressure. I had to call the same company for my keg cooler. They iced down the compressor, didn't charge with freon, then they returned to say I need a new compressor, which I had them install. I had cold draft for 12 hours, then they told me that the evapoartor coil needed to be replcede. Shouldn't they troubleshoot the whole problem before replacing random arts if they are a certified refrigeration company.

They should have checked this in the first instance,if I was you I would point this out to the company and request a refund on some previous work done.

Could you tell me a what a repairman would do as a routine troubleshoot for the problem of the cooler not cooling? I need to learn as much as I can about refridgeration as soon as possible. I am taking a company to court because I beliveve the techicians they had service my machines were not licensed and being in FL if you advertise that you are a contractor in refridgeration your employees must be certified and PCCLB card. I requested to see this and they never returned my call. So if you could break down the troubleshooting process for me it would be VERY helpful. Thanks

I don't think I can provide you with solutions on this. To prove that in court you will probably need an academic back up for this. So probably you may require written evidence from books to prove what you mean.Hope this helps.

I have a masters degree, and I can learn pretty easily, could you point me in the right direction to look? Perhaps somewhere I could get a manual or text book about topic?

It begs the question of Did you need to replace the compressor in the first place?

Usually when a fan and evaporator coild is rteplaced or checked they coat it with soap liquid or a fron detector fluid to find any leaks at joints or pinholes in the tubing. This is standard practice by any reputable company or refrig mechanic. Sounds like you are dealing with conmen to me

    Hello again,

I think the best option for you, is to get the expectations of service procedure would be to contact the registration board who issue the certification documents.
There are differences between my countries certification and yours

By doing that you would be receiving the correct local requirements, not information that may not apply to your intended brief. If these people failed to show their credentials then they must be dud operators. Reputable firms would be proud to advertise or conform that they used qualified staff, just to disade and intimidate you from an attempt at a law suite

    .take it to em!

Yes they must try to trouble shoot them. They can check whether the compressor is faulty by proper trouble shooting steps and indicated yoou first time itself.

if they ice down the compressor, could they damage the evaporator coil? Shouldn't they check the pressure levels of freon as a routined

Why do freezer and refrigerator get warm and then cool down again and repeat the cycle every few days?

check fan operation if fan not working will cause icing and the air wont pass thru causing temperature to rise in unit than defrost cycle removes some of icing and unit will work to cool down till iced over --other is defrost timer damaged or electrical connection problem

Refrigerator not cooling.

No the evaporator fan not running has nothing to do with the compressor. I would suspect that you are freezing up over the evaporator because the fan is not running and when it ices up the air can not flow through properly therefore causing the refrigerator side to get warmer. Replace the fan and you should be fine. Take the back panel inside the freezer off and see if you are all iced up. If you bare then I would replace the fan . You also said the defrost heater did not come on. That will also cause a freeze up. Possible replacement of the defrost heater may be needed. Good Luck!

Fan turns off in refrigerator section.

Its issue with defrost timer causing the fan to turn OFF.

Get the timer checked.

Freezer is not working. was purchased less than a year ago

The entire refrigerator is still under warranty. I would call an authorized repairman.

If you still want to do some troubleshooting: Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 st1\:*{behavior:url(#ieooui) } /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} . Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.
Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

How to check stuff>

Is the evaporator fan in the freezer running. It blows cold air into the fridge side through a damper in the wall between the freezer and fridge. Make sure the damper is open.

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).

Refrigerator/freezer won't stay cold.

With the defrost timer being replaced already it sounds as if the repairman is not looking at the real problem. Unit works for 2 days then things start thawing. Hint Hint... it is not defrosting. There is a heating element inside the freezer section attached underneath the internal tubing that melts the ice every 6 to 8 hours via the defrost timer depending on the defrost timer installed. To prove that it is not defrosting..... just unplug the unit and place a stand fan blowing into the freezer for about 90 minutes. I would bet that once you plug it back in it wil work for 2 days and the problem once again repeats. With 2 calls on the same unit and you still have the same problem I would be calling the service people back and demand they fully troubleshoot the defrosting element and thermostat. Personally this is an unstatisfactory performance of an in home service by a repairman. With the exception of a new part if required, they should wave any labor and service call fees.

The freezer isn't gettting cold enough to freeze solid and the ice maker isn't making ice because of that too. Repairman says we have a freon leak. Is that a valid response...

possible causes: bad door seals or condensate drain plugged causing evaporator coils (in freezer) to ice up, condenser or evaporator fans not on, condenser coils dirty, compressor not working, or a freon leak. if the back wall of your freezer is frosty or super cold, the coils are iced up. remove the back wall and defrost it with a hair dryer. if the water doesn't drain, unclog the drain tube. check the door seals for gaps. replace if necessary. check the fan in the freezer and the fan in the back. both should come on when the compressor is on. if not, check the fuses on the main board. replace if needed. if all that is fine, and there is no frost, you have a slow leak or a bad compressor. call in a pro or get a new fridge.

Unit doesn't work when icemaker is on- Kitchen Aid Superba

that is unusual for the ice maker to cause it not to cool, but definitely not unheard of. if the fill tube to the ice maker, or ice maker itself, is leaking down the back of the freezer, behind the evaporator cover, it would form ice around the evaporator fan motor. this would cause the fan not to run, and the temp in the freezer and frige would rise. the ice would melt when it went into defrost, but then build up again. you should remove the rear panel in freezer and see if you see any ice build up around the fan blade, and if so, find where it is coming from. I hope this is the case for you. much cheaper than a compressor or new frige if it is. let me know if you have further questions. good luck, shane.

GE Monogram freezer side working but refrigerator side is not.

Did you clean the condenser?  Is the unit FULLY defrosted?   Defrost fully!!!!!!
Did he check the amount of gas in the unit?  If your unit has low gas...it is in need of more.  R12 is expensive.
Check gas level:  Shut unit for at least one hour.  View compressor.  Several pipes...we're looking at the largest.  Start the unit.  This pipe will begin to frost.  If it does not clear to dry, ice or wet...stays frosted...it is low.  Get the repair guy back ... but ask how much he'll charge first.
