Do a hard reset so that you should achieve the necessary mode you want to access.

btw, how did you happen to go to ROOT mode?

Hey,

First disconnect the power from the dvd player,
if there is a memory battery, remove it for a moment.

Put the memory battery back after 1-5 minutes
plug it back in and see if the problem has solved.

If you need more asistance, let me know. Good luck.

My Cox HD/DVR controller will turn off but will not turn on my new HKAVR1700 using the AUX button on the Cox supplied URC-8820-Cisco remote.

This is a documented problem with the Harmon/Kardon AVR-1700 and the Cox remote. Here's how I solved it. On the HK1700, go to System Settings and turn on HDMI Link. This will allow your TV (if it has the feature) to put the HK in standby mode when you power down the TV. Go to your setting on your TV and turn on HDMI link, or equivalent. I have a Sony TV and the setting is called "Control For HDMI." Then, use code 0110 for your Cox remote. This code will only turn on the HK, not turn it off. BUT, the HDMI Link should put the HK into standby.

Receiver stays on stand by

Turning On and Standby
On the AV receiver, press the [ON/STANDBY] button.
On the remote controller, press the [RECEIVER] button, followed by the
[ON/STANDBY] button.
The AV receiver comes on, the display lights up, and the STANDBY indicator goes off.
To turn the AV receiver off, press the [ON/STANDBY] button, or press the remote
controller's [ON/STANDBY] button. The AV receiver will enter Standby mode.

If you have any trouble using the receiver, a simple reset could solve your problem.Note that resetting the AV receiver will delete your radio presets and custom settings.
To reset the AV receiver to its factory defaults, turn it on and, while holding down the [VCR/DVR] button, press the [ON/STANDBY] button. "Clear" will appear on the display and the AV receiver will enter Standby mode.

Recently got a Yamaha R-S300,can i connect other sysyems to this receiver or do i need to buy all yamaha gear separately

You will need to get the optional Yamaha iPod dock if you want to use that feature, but otherwise you can use any brand of components (CD player, tape deck, speakers, etc.) you want. If you stick with all Yamaha components, you might be able to get by with a single remote control, but that's about the only benefit. Using different brands means you might need a table full of remotes for them, but they will work.

TV has no picture but has sound

Did you say you went in to DVR set-up and checked the component out audio option? I have had similiar problems with motorola dvr boxes and once I was able to enable audio output option the dvr digital output was fine. Find the manual for the model dvd and this may cure.

DirectTV HD-DVR & Yamaha RX-v1500

The types of remotes are as follows

- Single item, or fixed. This unit will only operate the unit it came with
- Multi function, this type can operate the unit it came with and a fixed set of other types. Normally the remote comes with a list of supported device it could work with.
- Learning, the combine both a predefined list with the ability to learn functions by sensing input from the original remote.
- Programable. These are the newest remotes that work like multifunction but the list is maintained by the manufacturer and down loadable from the web.

I would guess that the DVR has a multi function remote.
If you can't find the specific Yamaha in the list, then
try another brand, this could take a while.

Some multi function remotes have an option that allow a semi automatic configuration.
You turn on the item and then using a special key sequence try to turn off the device. once the item turns off you should be able to control it.

If you can't the Yamaha has a learning remote. If you really want an easy solution try looking at a programmable remote. I just got a Logitech, (Harrmony). Life has never been so easy.
