GLTF1040 - Cold water not entering machine. Hot water working fine. No changes in the house plumbing. The machine did not spin on regular wash heard a humming sound.

either the cold water solenoid isn't operating or the hose inlet screen is plugged by lime build up from hard water, remove the cold water hose and inspect this screen for blockage,as for the non- spinning condition, it should give you an error code to help trace this problem

The washer will not fill with cold water. When I try to wash with cold or warm...only hot water will fill the machine.

If it is a hot and cold fill washer, then you must ensure that there is water at the inlet valve, and the valve filter is not blocked.
If that is o/k, then the valve could be faulty.
Also ensure that you have the cold water connected to the cold valve if it is hot and cold fill.
Please rate my solutioin.

Does not appear to take in cold water.only hot.

Turn cold supply faucet off, remove cold hose from washer (catch water in hose), and place hose end in bucket. Turn the cold water faucet on again--should have good supply of water. If not, check for plugged inlet screen at faucet end of hose. If everything is ok, then probable defective cold water solenoid valve inside machine. Check water inlet at machine to see if it has a screen that might be plugged.

Cold water doesnt work

Hi, First check and see if there is something plugging the cold water inlet screen. Remove the cold water hose to look at the screen. Another way to test the inlet valve is set the washer to cold wash, listen for the inlet valve to buzz or hold feel the cold inlet fitting and see is you can feel it vibrating.
If there is nothing plugging the inlet screen and the inlet valve doesn't buzz, you will need to change it.
Please let me know if this helps you or if I can assist you further.

But will start with hot.kenmore 70 wont start with the cold water

Hi, First thing you want to do is start the cold sysle and listen for a faint hum. If there is a hum, turn supply valve off and remove fill hose.
Look inside the valve on the washer and see if something is plugging the screen. If the screen is plugged flush it out (do not remove the screen.
If the screen is not plugged, and there was no hum when washer was trying to fill with cold water, you will need to change the inlet mixer valve.
Please let me know if this has helped or if I can assisst you further.

Hi, Does the cold water valve hum when you start the washer? Put settings on cold and start washer. If the valve hums, remove the hose and check to see if there is sand or rust plugging the screen (DO NOT remove the screen) Just scrap it or flush it with the cold water hose. If the valve does not hum, you will need to change the mixer iblet valve. Please let me know if I can assist you further or order you the part you need.

Cold water feed into tub seems somewhat pluged.

For low water volume - or "Trickling" effect...

1. Turn off the water supply to both hoses.
2. Remove hoses (one at a time so you don't get them confused)
3. On the washer side - look for a removeable screen inside wher you just removed the hose.
4. Using a small screwdriver - pop out the screen and reverse-flush it/clean it. It will likely be full of sediment and calcium deposits from your pipes.
5. Replace the inlet screens.
6. Re-fit the hose to the machine.
7. Turn on water supply valves.
8. re-try.

No water on cold wash/cold rinse setting

Tip1. Make sure your cold water turnoff is turned on all the way off before you check water screen. It could be clogged with sediment located inside threaded cold water hose connection. If clogged scrape clean or replace screen.Reconnect cold water hose and turn cold water supply all the way on. Tip2. Electric water solenoid could be defective or simply have a loose wire on the plug of the solenoid or loose plug / wire on mode switch.

Intermittent hot water valve not opening

problem may be low water pressure. try putting in a y-piece so cold water is supplied to both valves. only effect will be that wash cycle will be a bit longer
