Question about HP DeskJet 3550 InkJet Printer

1 Answer

I have a brand-new black ink cartridge that is most definitely properly installed in my hp deskjet 3550 printer, but the printer simply will not print in black. Every document comes out blue and pink, and nothing I do will make it use the brand new full and properly installed black ink cartridge.

HP DESKJET 5600 ENCOUNTERED ERROR WHEN POWERED ON

If the new (or refilled/reman/compatible) HP 56, 57 or 58 ink cartridge refuses to print black/color and/or fails to function at all (i.e. blinking ink lights on Deskjet 5000, 5100, 5500, 5600 or 5800 series printers) or fails to complete the printer alignment following cartridge installation, then the ink cartridge either has a connectivity issue with the flexible printed circuit cable (inside unit where cartridge mates with cable), the rear cartridge contacts or cable contacts are dirty with ink residue, or the cartridge is suffering from marginal internal electrical performance. It is suggested you perform the TAP 43 (and TAP 10) DIAGNOSTIC PRINTER TEST to evaluate the ink cartridges electrical performance. Visit Inkjet411 support site to see instructional video: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=2358
Also verify that the cover interlock switch (at top-right side of printer) is closing properly - you may need to place a thick shim (1/4 inch by 1 inch) into the door switch port to enable printer to properly energize (I would check this first). This Deskjet printer series is known to have a top cover closing issue (the top covers warp over time unfortunately).
NOTE: For the HP Deskjet 5000 series printer models, when you get an HP 56, 57 or 58 integrated ink cartridge refilled (i.e. currently offered at Costco or Frys today) or if you buy a remanufactured/compatible HP ink cartridge, the ink levels are not initially reset. However, continuing to use an ink cartridge which displays LOW INK alerts is permitted by the printer, simply select OK, CONTINUE or DISMISS when these alerts are observed. Now, it is possible to reset the ink levels by performing the procedure outlined on Inkjet411's site: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1915
To clean the HP 56, 57 or 58 ink cartridges please visit the Inkjet411 site which provides recommendations on how to clean the electrical contacts, flex driver cables and how to perform a hot water flush of the cartridge nozzle plate (refer to video): http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1519

My HP 3550 deskjet will simply not print. It goes through the motions and seems to be printing --but the page is blank or very faint. I have already cleaned and re-calibrated the printer

Check ink-levels -- no ink means no printing.
Run a few more "print-head-cleaning" cycles -- clogged ink-jets cannot spray ink onto the paper.

My hp Color Laserjet 3550 Printer wont print black when it is out of color ink

The 3550 won't print in any color if any of the colors are out. You'll have to replace the color ink that's empty to get it to print.

In the future, if you're just printing black and white, you can select "Print in Grayscale" from the print properties to just use the black ink cartridge, which will help the color cartridges to last longer.

How to set hp deskjet 3550 inkjet printer to print in only black and white by ignore the color ink,for the important document. endliam< endliamc@gmail.com>

To Save the color ink you can change the printer settings to Black Only.

To Setup:
  1. Press START Button.
  2. Select RUN Command.
  3. Type these commands in CAPS.
  4. CONTROL PRINTERS and press OK or Enter.
  5. Now you will get Printers & Faxes Window.
  6. There you select the ink jet printer which you want to change the color settings.
  7. Right Click on it and Select Printer Properties later.
  8. Select Printing Preferences
  9. There you can see lot of window tabs (just like a worksheets). Depends on printer in any of the TAB you can see the option Black Only / GrayScale Printing Only.
  10. Choose the appropriate option and Select APPLY.
  11. Then give a test page for it.

That's it...

Hope this will be helpful to you..

Thanks & regards
Nandu :)

Hp 3550 printer color cartridge printing but black not printing

Perform print head cleaning and also try to take a test page and ensure that ink is properly injected out of nozzle.
If this doesnot work take out the cartridge and clean the contact and reinsert the cartridge .

HP3550 PROBLEM

I eventually discovered that the blinking was simply caused by the printer running out of ink. I intially dismissed this as a possibility because Windows always used to warn us when the ink was getting low. However, I presume that we no longer get those warnings now that we're running on Vista rather than XP - a compatibility issue I guess.
