Mould/gunk on the rubber seal of a Maytag MAF1300 AAW - help!

Hi there. I have a Maytag MAF1300 AAW that I'm having trouble with mould on the inner rubber door seal. The mould is not only in the crease of the lower part of the rubber seal where the water collects but I've just noticed that the mould extends up the left hand side where the water comes out and quite heavily up around the upper part of the rubber seal. I've been running the machine on the hottest wash on occasion with vinegar and bicarbonate soda (no clothes of course). And trying to remove some of the mould with JIF but is there anything else I can do? I clean out the filter once every couple of months.

Once mold is present the only way to get rid of it is with peroxide. Any residue left will grow again.

Smelly washing machine

Hi Haydn.
One of the main reasons for smelly machines is because the door is left closed and mould is growing in the drum and door seal.
Using some chlorine bleach will help. Put some in the drum and do a 'Rinse & spin'.
Leaving the door slightly ajar will allow the drum to dry and it will also allow the rubber seal to relax, thus maintaining a good contact with the glass when in use.
Once it's established mould can be difficult to get rid of entirely.
Good luck.

How do i clean Bosch WAE20261AU front loader washing machine

The lint will be in a removable filter and as for cleaning the rubber seal the black grime will most likely be mould. Try a good mould remover.

Model WF7700N6W1 - front loader - smell? Rubber seal inside door peels back a bit to reveal buildup of gunk between seal and inside frame? retaining water here?

Ok, nothing to worry about. You have bacteria growing in your machine. Clean out the slime from the door seal using a soft cloth and soapy water. DON'T use any harsh chemicals such as bleach !
Remove your detergent drawer (if possible) and clean it thoroughly - a dishwasher will do this very well. Disconnect your machine from the power supply and clean thoroughly inside the space where the dispenser drawer was, using a toothbrush or larger nylon brush and a soft, soapy cloth.
Using liquid detergents all the time can cause a build up of residue over time, which gives the bacteria and mould somewhere to grow. So try a hot wash cycle (without a load) using a powder detergent intended for whites. Washing powders contain brighteners and chemicals which are hostile to mould and bacteria.
Finally, leave your dispenser drawer and loading door open every night to allow fresh air to circulate through the entire machine. This will reduce the number of cleaning occasions needed.

My maytag neptune washer has black residue on the seal. I have tried everything & nothing seems to take it off. I am now concerned that it is mold. Has anyone experienced this same problem?

I have a 18month Electrolux 8kg front loader which has mould on the bottom part of the rubber seal. I have always kept the door open after every wash but the mould has set in. I have tried wiping it with...

You will find that wiping it dry, then painting it with thick household bleach and leaving it overnight will have an excellent effect on the staining. The rubber will tolerate the bleach without any problem. If one night doesn't quite cut through the mould, treat again the following night.

Just remember to wash the bleach away thoroughly, so that it doesn't affect any garments in the next wash!

The grey rubber door seal in our Electrolux EW1080 F has lots of black mould trapped inside it. Is there any way to remove the entire seal to clean it or do you just have to try your best to wipe around...

Don't use eucalyptus oil, because it will damage the rubber, and the smell will linger.
The black mould should be wiped off using a damp soft cloth and mild detergent. Diluted bleach (1 part in 10 parts cold water) can also be used, with care (wear gloves); don't use full-strength bleach, because it can damage rubber and corrode metal. Leave the door and detergent drawer open between washes and overnight to keep air circulating through the machine. This will slow down the regrowth of mould. For further improvement, wipe the seal dry after each use of the machine. If your laundry room remains steamy or damp for hours after washing, improve the ventilation

WIXL 125 the rubber seal around the door has mould at the bottom where thre liitle hole is. It has stained and there is water sitting around the area. Can we replace the rubber and why has this...

Yes, the seal can be replaced, and the reason for the mould is that you are doing too many low temperature washes.
You should periodically do a max high temp wash to help keep the seal clean and stop it from smelling.

I have a front loader washing machine. The rubber inside is going mouldy. I have tried to clean same without success - any suggestions!

Unfortunately, once the door seal goes mouldy it is impossible to get clean. Only option is to replace seal. Once seal is replaced, you need to wipe it dry after each wash and leave door ajar to prevent reoccurence of mould.
