Ibm think pad bios locked

Short pins on the bios chip. I have done this on T42's. I assume it will work on T30's as well. You'll have to search the internet for which pins to short (usually pins 5 & 6 or pins 7 & 8), but you short the pins together and turn the machine on. Be careful! Do it at your own risk. Once you are into the BIOS, you cancel the password settings and save.

Hard disk gb maximum

Hello here is the homepage:

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3505#dl

The mainboard does not have a limit for the harddrive size.
But the windows system sometimes have a limit especially windows xp.
A new sata driver or a bios upgrade is sometimes needed when you add a big harddrive.
Note: take care not to flash the bios with a wrong one if needed.
And also the new drive must be formatted ( in NTFS format ) before you can use it.
If you still run windows xp, try to make more partitions, so windows can see the new drives.
Other system like windows 7, does not have this limit.

Good luck

Changed the CPU from 1.8 to original thinkpad 2.2. bios CPU speedsetting " automatic". thinkpad is not starting, only the fan. ?

Points to incompatible or possibly damaged CPU. Are you sure the CPU is the right one (compare the pin and chip arrangement on the underside of the CPU), as some are rather similar.

If it was known to be a good CPU, replace it with the original and download and flash the bios with the latest upgrade.

I have just tried, for the first time, using my new 320GB Canvio. The white pilot light comes on, and I feel the disk spinning for a short time, but there is no operating software presented, and no file...

External harddrives do not come with an O/S. They are for external storage, beyond the master harddrive you have installed.

The master harddrive has the O/S.
The Platters are spinning because BIOS had a look to see what is on the Toshiba 320GB external harddrive.

[You press the Power On button. The first chipset to receive power is the BIOS chipset.
(Basic Input/Output System)

BIOS looks to see what devices are connected to the computer, does a Ram Memory count, turns the Processor on, then hands the computer over to the operating system.

BIOS finds THE harddrive with the O/S on it ]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BIOS

http://computer.howstuffworks.com/hard-disk.htm

When the Windows O/S (Operating System) is installed on a computer is assigns hash values to certain major hardware components in the computer.

A) Processor
B) Harddrive
C) Motherboard. (Motherboard chipsets and BIOS software on the BIOS chipset)
D) Graphics chip. (Whether it is Integrated Graphics, {OnBoard}, or a graphics card)

Change any two of these hardware components and Windows throws up a 'red flag'.
Microsoft's User License states, "One genuine copy of Windows per One computer"

If a hash value has changed, such as there are different hardware components, Windows 'feels' it is being stolen.

Why do you feel there should be an O/S already installed on the external harddrive?
Awaiting your reply please state in a Comment.

I accidently removed the cmos battery of ibm thinkpad t30. After that error 0271: time and date setting appear then power on password show up. I failed to get into bios to change the time and date setting...

Removing the BIOS battery will not remove the BIOS password because the password is stored on an EEPROM chip. The password can be retrieved with difficulty, it requires you to build an EEPROM chip reader. For instructions to remove this password, please click on this link :-

Forgotten the BIOS password of IBM T30 Laptop

The BIOS password is configured from the BIOS setup and this password is stored on an EEPROM chip. There is no backdoor password available and IBM/Lenevo support says the motherboard needs to be replaced. Also removing the BIOS battery to discharge the BIOS and reset it to the default settings will not allow you to bypass this password. This also applies to the Power On Password and the Hard Disk Password.
There is a way to crack the password but you need electronic skills, electronic components and several programs plus a working computer to carry out this task.
For details on how to do this check this WEB site.

Please Start

It is reaching POST but not boot so I would check your harddrive is ok. Search online for a free harddrive diagnostic such as Seatools and run that.
See if it is recognised in BIOS, when it boots to the IBM screen tap F2 (or whatever button takes you to BIOS setup) and under the boot section see if your HDD is listed.

Check your harddrive is connected properly, if it is clicking or making any strange noises it may be damaged.
Hope this helps,

It makes a clicking noise and wont turn on j

Most likely, the clicking noise comes from the harddrive. If the laptop passes the BIOS screen, but does not load the OS, the HD is or has become defective and needs replacement.

Acer Aspire 3002 new hard drive 160GB only shows 128GB. Has all XP updates. Bios 3a32. How can I access lost GBs?

Even though you've installed all updates you installed with an original XP CD with no service packs which can only be seen as 128Gig max. You could just use a disk partitioning program such as "Partition Magic" to resize the partition or you could make yourself a slipstreamed XP SP3 CD and reinstall from scratch and this will detect larger drives. Instructions are availabe for slipstreaming all over the internet. Hope this helps
