Can you remove handle and it should have a dial with teeth on it like a gear that you adjust from side to side by removing and replacing maybe a 1/8 -1/4 turn to adjust water settings.

If it is not in correctly anyway you turn the handle the water will stay on. It maybe be missing just remove handle and check out. It has a stop on dial to limit handle movement so it could be out of adjustment or missing.

Not enough pressure

I would suggest not enough pressure. If the hand shower is connected to the taps then pressure would be the problem as the water comes from the tank in the loft fed by gravity. Solution is a power shower.

Hi...you could let the whole pipe come out and replace that too with your new shower head. Just be sure to put some "tape dope" or some plumbers "joint compound" on all threaded connections before install to ensure no leaks especially inside the shower wall.

Not enough hot water

The screws remove the handle. After the handle is removed their are little plastic like gears to limit th ehot watr. Relocate the gear ring for more hot water.
