Hi,
The oven igniter should stay on constantly as long as oven control is calling for heat and not fade off. If the igniter is too weak and not pulling enough current it may not open the gas valve correctly and gas will be let out of the gas valve and not igniter.
The likely failure is a weak oven glow bar igniter. I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your range.

Hope this helps .

Gas oven not lighting

Hi the problem here is the igniter. Take the floor of the oven out and then the flame spreader. The igniter will be located at the back of the burner. Set the oven for 350, if the igniter does not light then test it with an ohms meter it should read continuity. If it reads open you should replace it. If the igniter does glow it still could be bad, the igniter should glow bright yellow to the point you can't look at it. If the igniter glows orange/yellow it is bad you will need to replace it. If you have any other questions please feel free to comment. Mike

Oven will not light. it is a frigidaire model #

When the bake igniter becomes weak or burns out, your oven will not bake. The bake igniter is usually mounted on the oven burner. It's about 1 inch by 4-8 inches (depending on the model), and comes in round or flat styles. If you don't see the igniter glow at all, it's probably burned out. Replace the igniter if found defective. Note: one of the exceptions could be that your oven is set to automatic mode instead of manual. If this is the case, set your oven to manual mode and check again.

If the bake igniter glows red and not bright yellow or white, it is probably because it is too weak. When this happens, the safety valve will not let the gas out into the oven burner. A weak igniter must be replaced.

A faulty igniter is probably the most common cause, however there are others:

  1. Defective thermostat
  2. Defective selector switch
  3. Defective gas safety valve
  4. Defective gas valve coils

Gas range oven is not heating to temputere

If the oven is lighting normally the tempurature sensor is probably bad. If the igniter glows but doesn't light the oven then the igniter is faulty and needs replaced. A faulty igniter can still glow but not get hot enough to release gas into the burner tube.

O-defective gas safety valve
O-defective gas valve coils

The lower oven ignighter does not glow

I had the same problem and swapped the oven igniter with the broiler igniter and the oven now works. This proved the oven igniter itself was the fault, now I have to replace the broiler igniter with a new one(which is much easier to get to).

FYI: An igniter may glow red and still not allow the oven to work. The igniter has to draw a certain amount of electrical current for the main gas valve to open.

My roper oven will not light. the starter element will glow

I assume you are saying the oven will not light but you can see the igniter glowing....if this is the case you will still need to replace the igniter, igniters need to be drawing a certain amperage before the will open the gas safety valve. in this case your igniter is glowing unevenly orange and is old - it is not pulling enough amps to open the valve. Replace it and you should be good to go.

Oven will not light

ignitor lights up , so im assuming its a glow bar style ignitor. replace it, although its glowing its not glowing strong enough to release gas from the valve, the fact that it lights at all is a sign that the vavle isgood and control to turn it on as well!Common,Common problem

GE Oven does not light - no gas smell and no electronic ignition clicking sound

It probably needs an oven igniter. Remove oven racks. Remove oven floor. Usually 2 screws towards back. Remove flame spreader if it has one. You can see long tube with holes in sides and igniter with 2 wires from rear. Now try oven. See if igniter glows. If it does but doesn't light within 1 minute, replace igniter.
If it doesn't glow, you need to check for power to igniter. Should be about 100 volts. If not may need ERC, "Electronic Range Control".
