Question about Toshiba 36AF42 36" TV

1 Answer

TOSHIBA 36AF42 HAD FIOS AND FIOS BOX INSTALLED AND NOW INTERMITTENTLY THE VOLUME/ON/OFF DOESNT WORK FROM THE FIOS REMOTEOR THE ORIGINAL REMOTE INTERMITTENT. LET SIT FOR A DAY OR EVEN AND HOUR AND REMOTE VOLUME/ON/OFF WORK ON BOTH FIOS REMOTE AND ORIGINAL REMOTE. FIOS REMOTE WORKS ON CHANNEL SEARCH ALL THE TIME BUT THAT WORKS OFF THE FIOS BOX - NOT TV SO i THINK THERE MAY BE A PROBLEM WITH THE REMOTE OPTIC EYE FOR THE TV. THIS STARTED 2 DAYS AFTER FIOS HOOKED UP. TV WORKED FINE PRIOR BUT IT WAS REGULAR CABLE WITH NO CONVERTER BOX AT THAT TIME. IS THERE ANY HELP FOR IT. i ALREADY HAD THE FIOS REMOTE REPLACED BUT NO CHANGE.

THE FIOS BOX WAS REPLACED YESTERDAY WITH SAME RESULTS. KEEP IN MIND THE FIOS BOX DOESNT CONTROL VOLUME/ON/OFF FOR THE TV. THAT WORKS THROUGH THE OPTIC EYE

Your Fios box seems to be faulty

Your Fios box is probably faulty. disconnect the box in sequence from power outlet and from tv, and cable (there is power which can blow the box in cable). Wait 10 minutes and plug everything together.
The problem at this point may have temporarily gone, if it comes back in a couple of days, this confirm that the box is faulty.
If you can get the box replaced as soon as possible.

Hello
It will be best for you to buy its original remote control. Universal remotes may also work with it, but some functions may not work properly. You can buy it from the Authorised Service Center for Toshiba at your town. Just give them the exact model number of you TV set [which can be noted at its back side]. They will give you the exact original one.

RCA RCR 311B model universal remote have setup codes for Toshiba. You may also try this remote. The codes are:
1047, 1071, 1103, 1105, 1108, 1159, 1163, 1178, 1188, 1190, 1191, 1196, 1211
I strongly advice you to buy its original one. OK.

The volume doent work when using the remote. I have tried the cable remote and the original tv remote and the volume works at times but less and less.

Try imputing a different toshiba code into each of the remotes. 0156, 0060, 0154. If that does not help, then unfortunately it is your tv.

Verizon FIOS remote buttons all work except Volume. Sony Trinitron WEGA remote has to be used. Volume is Fixed. Can something be done to control volume with the Verizon remote?

I had the same problem with a Sony Trinitron KV-32FS320 32" TV. I reset the remote to factory default.
  • Press and hold STB
  • While holding STB, press OK
  • Release both keys, wait for device keys to blink twice
  • Press 9-0-0. The STB key will blink three times
Then I reprogrammed the TV control.
  • Turn your television on
  • Press STB to enter Set Top Box mode
  • Press and hold TV
  • While holding TV, press OK
  • Release both keys, wait for device keys to blink twice
  • Press 1-1-2-7. This is one of the Sony TV codes
After this, the volume + and - worked to control the TV.
  • Program any other devices, such as DVD using procedure similar to above.
I hope this works for you.

GO TO MENU, THEN SETUP, SCROLL DOWN TO TIMER AND MAKE SURE IT IS ON 0 (ZERO) MIN. SOUNDS LIKE ITS PROGRAMMED TO GO SLEEPAFTER A CERTAIN TIME. THIS TV ALSO CUTS OFF AUTOMATICALLY IN 15 MIN. IF ITS TUNED TO A VACANT CHANNEL( NO PICTURE).

Toshiba that uses CT-90040 remote

Is the cable remote a programmable universal? If so, just a matter of finding the codes to reprogram functions.
Concerning the "tuning video", are you saying that you can't get to different input sources?
