Question about Philips CDR775 2-Disc CD Recorder

1 Answer

Any disc loaded into the 'record' side is not accepted and results in a message of 'no disc' or 'wrong disc'. Have tried Sony, Memorex and Staples CDR discs. thanks. Jim

You need phillips brand audio discs only they will work with that machine

This is not correct. I used a variety of black cd-audio media (including generic supermarket tpes) with every success. I doubt that the actual brand of blank disc has any relevance here.

However, I did come across this when looking for information on how to remedy my own 'record' drive which is now refusing to recognise ANY disc, including black cd-audio, cd-rw-audio, commerciall-made discs, AND discs that I actually made on the machine itself! The right-hand, play-only, drive, is working fine. I have had the machine almost ten years.

Sony RDRGXD455 have tried both DVD-RW and DVD+RW discs from Phillips and they do not work. I have tried VR and Video modes. Do you think Verbatim DVD-RW discs would work?

It depends on what you are trying to record on them. These machines have copy protection built in. So if they detect that they won't let you record on the disc.

Samsung DVD-VR330 unit will not accept a brand new blank DVD-RW disc---machine says 'load' for 20 seconds, before saying 'open', which it does.

The DVD-RW will work at random, some brands will wok better than others. Memprex, Sony, Maxell are 3 I can use sometimes. Once the disk is accepted it must be formatted. Click that and if accepted, first do a record for say 2 minutes to see if ti works.

If it works don't take it out until you're ready to finalize it.
That's mostly so the disk will be readable in other players, should it not want to go back in, you probably lost the record.
Don't write on the back, use a card and keep it in the cover.

Sometimes I can use those disk's in PC for data.

It will not load certain dvd discs

Below is a list of discs that should or should not be used with the DVD recorders.
DVD-R
4x can be used
8x will result in a disc error.
DVD-RW
2x can be used
4x will result in a disc error.
The following discs have been tested and are proven to be compatible with our DVD recorders.
MEMOREX DVD-R
FUJIFILM DVD-R
FUJIFILM DVD-RW
IMATION DVD-RW
IMATION DVD-R 2.0
TDK DVD-RW 2X
TDK DVD-R 2X
The following are brands of discs we DO NOT recommend:
MEMOREX DVD-RW
SONY DVD-RW
SONY DVD-R
TDK DVD-RW 4x
TDK DVD-R 4x

Please be aware that a free software upgrade is now available to customers. This upgrade will enable your unit to recognize the (DVD-R 8x) discs. To obtain a copy, please call 1-800-242-7158. Customer service by phone is available 7 days a week 6:00am to 9:00pm pacific time.

In order to receive the upgrade we need to know what firmware version your unit requires. First you need to access the DVD recorders service mode. Turn on the DVD Recorder and the Television, make sure the unit is on the DVD side. You may access the service mode by pressing the CMSKIP button on the remote control. Once you press CMSKIP you must press the numbers 1,2,3. You must do this quickly so it may take a couple tries. The model name will appear on the screen followed by Firmware Version. I need to know the serial number next to FE:
Press the RETURN button to exit screen.

Get the upgraded disc and go to Staples and get the generic Staples discs. I hope this helps and good luck. Please vote appropriately and leave a message.

I am trying to record to a blank dvd-r. I load a blank dvd-r into samsung-vr357 and it ejects it saying "Cannot read disc". I never get a chance to Format it or anything.

I bought a lens cleaner and ran it and it still would not accept blank dvd-r. I loaded some old recordings I made to see if they would play and they did. I noticed these were recorded on "Staples" brand dvd-r bought at Staples office supply store. I went out and bought some more of these and they work!! For whatever reason, the unit accepts these and I have made 5 copies and they all copy and play fine. Now i need to go get some more! The Maxell just won't work in my player. Too bad I bought 100!

Sony dvd recorder rdr gx7 sending disc error message

The laser readerwriter is most likely burned out, it is the most common failure. The option of repair is not really feasible as the cost of new is really low.
