Problem for Toshiba 36AF42 36" TV

Remote optic

By Tom Earles on Mar 29, 2008

Just got Fios and Fios box hooked up to our Toshiba 36AF42. A couple of days later the volume and on/off from the Fios remote(and the original remote)) would not work and then after 1 hour or 2 hours or 1 day they would (channel up/down always works but that is activated through the Fios box). It seems like the optic eye for remote pickup has a problem. Do you have an ideas. Tom Earles, 609-731-1791. tearles@hmausa.com

- I am being offered a premium assistance plan- I already paid for it yesterday. Now I am getting concerned....I answered the tech back yesterday when he suggested I replace the FIOS box that it had already been replaced the day before and that I still needed help. That was the reply I was waiting for...not purchase the plan I already purchased?????

Same Problem

Feb 14, 2009

-   I have the same problem with my Toshiba 46 inch. I know what the problem is but do not know how to permanently fix it. The TV gives off infared light that interferes with the optic light between the remote and the stb. If you turn off the tv and leave the stb on then all of the controls will work with the remote. Or if you leave everything on and completely block the TV and stb with a blanket or something then the remote will work on the stb side. This is a factory defect with a compatability issue with toshiba's, Olevia's, Pantasonic Plasma's and probably many more. -   hackettgtman

I've heard where other people have replaced thier box and remote several times. FIOS is in denial and will offer bogus solutions even when they know they have a compatability issue.
